Great Menudo, did not disappoint; homemade tostadas and salsa came a little late but they were good. My son and I had to steal some menudo from my husband's bowl cause 1) it looked too good to not to, and 2) it was A LOT of menudo!! I had Eggs Your Way and it was good. I liked that the egg was not overcooked. Beans and hashbrowns were good as well. I dont know how, but they vanished from my plate. Tortilla de harina and maiz are homemade, super happy about that. Flour tortilla was really big, the size of the plate. Loved that I could order à la carte for the 6yo. Just a pancake and a bacon strip. 15yo had chicken and waffles, said the waffle was a little too sweet, but overall, good. We liked that they brought a small pitcher for lemonade refills and also an extra thermos for our coffee. Service was ok, every table was taken and only 3 waitresses for probably 16- 18 tables. (More waitresses this time around) Restaurant is clean. What we didnt like is that they put tons of ice in our sons lemonade, so he had maybe 1/3 lemonade in his glass. I believe it was $3.25 for the lemonade. (But then, she set a small sized pitcher - maybe 20 ounces in size - of lemonade at the table for him, filled to the top again, with ice). Missing my fork to eat, it was about 5 mins before she came back to our table to let her know that I needed my fork to eat my eggs. They may be short staffed, and that's understandable. Other than those minor deets, all good.
Update from my post 😮😏🤔 some things have definitely changed. On two separate occasions, the salsa for the chips and dip was no longer what it was before (homemade). No longer authentic Mexican salsa. More of canned sweet tomatoes with diced onion and cilantro. Very Americanized salsa. 😏 Disappointed. She brought the salsa but the chips didn't arrive for another 10 minutes. Menudo was very grease heavy, unlike before how it was clean and light. We noticed only two waitresses today, January 1st. Not sure if they were understaffed or they had the day off but service was still good. Wait times for food was average, maybe about 25 minutes before we got our food.
3rd update for Blanquitas. Came back after trying a different restaurant for a couple of months. Service was better as they had more wait staff for the moderately full restaurant. Food was good. Salsa was left at our table but didn't get the tostadas until 10 minutes later. Food was great. Ordered breakfast plates and they did not disappoint. Tortillas are still homemade, fresh and soft. My 7 year old ordered an enchilada plate, it comes with 3 enchiladas and he cleaned the plate, so that says a lot about the enchiladas. They continue to be a good breakfast/lunch place...
Read moreNew visit, 6-15-2024, Tex Mex Burrito for me and a Chicharon Taco for the wife. My meal was delicious. I enjoyed the cup of atole de arroz. Service was excellent this visit. Big change from previous visits. Good crowd but they kept up well. Definitely be back......................Great bfast, good service. New visit 9-23-22 hadn't been here in some time. Showed up at brunch and restaurant was practically empty. There seemed to be a very strange mildewy odor but the restaurant looked clean. Server seemed new and nervous but was very courteous. He disappeared a couple of times but service wasn't terrible. Ordered a TexMex bfast burrito and the wife had a Papa a la Mexicana with bacon, no egg. It took a bit to get our food but was very hot and fresh on arrival. We enjoyed our meal with the exception of fighting off the gnats inside. The couple that joined us had cheese enchiladas plate and birria taco special. They're food came in a lot faster They had no complaints. The consume(broth that came with birria) had extra chunks of beef in it. Really nice touch./ July 18 2023 visit. Stopped in for brunch . Not a bad visit. Service was good and the meal was a lot better. Wanted to try some different. Wife had the Pork Chops and eggs and I had the steak and eggs. Not bad. Good flavor , hot, fresh, well served and tender enough for not being a steakhouse. Definitely try it again. Neither of us...
Read moreBreakfast/lunch/dinner, one of the nicest Mexican restaurants in Harlingen, and easily the best of the Blanquita's (third time's the charm?). I'm stingy (sp?) with the stars compared to most Google users, but this is a nice new establishment with beautiful decor. The food is great, best breakfast potatoes in town. The green salsa brings that heat though! Stick with the red because the green is an official bHB - bHole Burner.
The restroom is one at a time, and despite the sign that's says "Employees Wash Hands" no one would wash my hands for me...
If you rate Las Vegas cafe or McDonald's equal to or higher than this restaurant, then I don't want any of your recommendations! Go jump in a lake, or a river...or a shallow resaca maybe, I'm not trying to get anyone hurt because your judgment...
