A few things to be clear about right off the bat, I did not buy a baked good, I dropped in to meet my wife briefly over my lunch break, see some puppies and grab a coffee. This review reflects that experience. I'd argue this place is first and foremost a bakery and not a coffee shop so make of that what you will.
This place is beautifully decorated and well situated in town. Within close walking distance of my work and the prices looked pretty reasonable. Today was particularly cool because they had puppies there. Seriously, there were puppies in the back area that had been brought in from what appeared to be an animal shelter of some type. Awesome idea, really love it.
Aside from that my experience was a little frustrating. The line was pretty long (despite the picture, most folks were round back with the puppies and I was careful not to snap a picture of one of their customers) and the staff were doing a great job of working it really quickly. I didn't have to wait long. But when I got to the end of the line they mishandled my payment accidently charging me for the lady behind me, they also served her first despite my place in line (to their credit they quickly resolved this and sorted the payment out though I have yet to confirm this with my bank), it looked a little like they were trying to do too much at once. Upon inspecting my receipt I found out that I was charged more than I was expecting ($1 cold brew coffees on the sign at the door, I paid $2, apparently it only works on small, the sign may have stipulated this, I didn't check on the way out).
The verdict here is that they need a better system to manage lines. They're a popular place and it's likely well deserved by the look of it, but this constituted a mostly frustrating experience for me. The cold brew itself was pretty good, and I'll likely drop in and give them another shot in the coming weeks.
UPDATE: Tried again with similar results. 99c donut sundays for donut day! Got a whole group from work jazzed up about going on our break. Arrived to find there was a 15 minute wait on donuts. Coffee was delicious. Still not sure I'm a fan of the place, not sure I'll be...
Read moreI am not from this city but am a christian. As far as Jim Crow days at least you were warned at the door "No blacks allowed" I don't need to be tolerated or at this damn time to guess what's going on with the business or person air force myself to go there because it's a bakery and try to ignore the interactions from the staff the judgment that you're subjected to because of your color..oh God no thank you. If you're from Harrisburg you're use to it I really don't care what this lady thinks but she thinks she the judge and has no clue... About dignity integrity and true love for oneself...they also pretend that the want eat ins but it's all premeditated.. projected behaviors that this establishment is unacceptable and I wish I could say that it was just sad but who cares I'm not asking you whether I should be accepted because I don't accept you..This is a place that likes to stick to their own...
Read moreI am a baker. My entire family and all my friends are cake snobs now due to the cakes I make. At weddings, highly rated restaurants, and special events we are always disappointed but we never give up hope that someone else somewhere, someday, can make good baked treats. I have been to famous bakeries and thrown away award winning baker's cupcakes by the dozens. I just had the pumpkin chai cupcake from Anna Rose and I will be honest, these cupcakes are not only up to par with anything I make but might even be better in some ways. I cannot believe this place isn't the top rating cupcake shop in Harrisburg. If you are anywhere near here and you need some cake, come running because this place is a treasure. The lady working there is also a gem! She supported all of my cupcake trying ideas and helped me pick the best ones to suit my specific taste. 10/10...
