Check out The Jackson House hoagies, Philly cheesesteaks, and burgers on 6th Street in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Possible hidden gem, although they run out of food so not sure how hidden it really is. Highly recommend, however, just get there early. And yes, I hear there is almost always a line so worth it for their delicious sandwiche. #centralpa #harrisburgpa #notsponsored #restaurantreview #hoagies #harrisburg #phillycheesesteaks #gabagool

The Jackson House is a true hidden gem that captures the essence of authentic Brooklyn atmosphere and serves up a lunch experience that's nothing short of fantastic. This mom and pop shop was perfect with its delicious offerings, especially their outstanding Philly cheese steaks and burgers. For those craving a taste of Brooklyn, The Jackson House is the place to be. The ambiance is reminiscent of a classic neighborhood spot, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that instantly feels like home. The authentic touch is evident not just in the decor but in the friendly service that makes you feel like part of the community. When it comes to lunch, The Jackson House stands out with its diverse and mouthwatering menu. I recently tried their Philly cheese steaks, and a burger, and they were an absolute delight. The flavors were spot-on, and the quality of the ingredients shone through. It's evident that they take pride in creating dishes that are not only delicious but also true to their roots. As a mom and pop shop, The Jackson House has that special touch that makes every visit memorable. The personalized service and the passion they bring to their craft truly make this place a standout in the lunch scene. If you're in the mood for an authentic Brooklyn lunch with fantastic Philly cheese steaks, or burgers look no further than The Jackson House. Five stars all around!

The bun was soaked with grease. Fell apart as soon as I tried to pick it up. Which was odd since the burger itself was over cooked and dried out. Except for the half of the patty that was basically raw. The fries were soggy, flavorless, and overcooked. A truly disappointing meal. Especially considering how expensive it was. I believe you can learn all you need to know about a place based on their burgers and fries. I know I did. The burger patty should speak for itself. Good meat, lightly seasoned, cooked right, and it doesn't need anything else. You can eat it like a steak, and enjoy it. If you rely on all of the toppings to cover up a bad patty, then its just not a good burger. Good fries aren't a mystery. There are entire books dedicated solely to the science of making good fries. Guess they never read any of those books. If you like their food, cool. Support your local joints. But if you're looking for a real, honest, good burger, in my opinion, this isn't the place.

I travel to Harrisburg once a year for the Pennsylvania Farm Show. In the beginning, it was a chore—an activity that was work-based, supporting the Pennsylvania Beekeepers Association and donating my time in their various booths to both inform the public about pollinators and earn dontations on behalf of the Queen program. They expensedme, to be sure, but because of the 9-9 schedule, I was relegated to the “state fair” food available within the show’s confines. Good, but a mere novelty. One can eat just so many fried cheese cubes or potato-based donuts. After years of enduring the same offerings, I did what honey connoisseurs did when seeking local product, and looked for the best, most local food in the area.

And I found Jackson House.

I can tell you that, having literally travelled the world, I’ve never, ever, found a better sandwich, or burger, and will throw down with those who challenge me. Old school, fresh baked bread, homemade ingredients, and traditional combinations with a twist simply have no equal.

Yes, they are only open 10-2 weekdays, and often turn people away a half hour before closing. Their quality enables their quirkiness, and demands you not only make time in your day, but make a detour in your overall route. In Maryland for business? Detour the two hours north for the best—the only—Italian hoagie around. In Buffalo? Come down for the best burger ever. And if you are in state, there’s no reason not to hit the ‘pike and have the gastronomical reward that is Jackson House.

Life is short, eat...

I recently went to the Jackson House for the first time and I was not disappointed. A staple of PA state workers for years, I regrettably never went there when I worked in Harrisburg. But, I had the opportunity to return. I ordered the Jackson Burger - American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and their own special sauce on a sesame seed bun. I also got a side of regular fries. I am not kidding when I say it was the best burger I ever had. This place is often packed at lunch time and they actually walked through the line asking for burger orders far before we actually paid. This is because Jackson House cooks their burgers long and slow. It resulted in a moist, well seasoned patty. The entire combination was delicious together. I usually love ketchup and mustard on burgers, but they were not necessary. Not sure what the special sauce is, but it kind of looks like a ketchup aioli.I will say that I did not need the fries. They weren't anything special, though they weren't bad. The burger would have been enough for me.Definitely check this place out if you are in Harrisburg at lunch time. But beware, they close at 2pm and...
