OK: right out of the gate, let me say that this place is definitely worth stopping by.
Not your normal dairy bar where they sell run of the mill soft ice cream and a few flavors of hard ice cream.
Klein's makes 4 flavors Fresh every night. Just enough for the following day. Two of those flavors (chocolate and vanilla) are consistent. The other 2 rotate on a weekly basis. The changeover happens every Thursday, although sometimes they change it up on Wednesday.
When I visited, those flavors were vanilla, chocolate, banana and caramel praline.
I got the caramel praline.
It was unlike anything I've had before. That's not hyperbole.
This was not ice cream. This was home made Ice cream used only as a carrier for all kinds of other goodness. The ice cream had a texture to it. It was impregnated with pralines, caramel and I don't know what else. It's ice cream that you have to chew in order to eat. And it all tasted Amazing.
The ice cream shop shares a building with Subway - which almost hides it from one angle. But there is a sign on the road shaped like an ice cream cone
I was there on a cool October evening and there was a line. So I can only guess what it must look like during the summer.
The girls that worked inside were very kind and friendly. Their service was prompt. I Started to walk away from the window and she said "no weight right here!" They got it to me within about a minute.
In addition to the ice cream itself they have a large assortment of different toppings that you can add. I guess most people add them to vanilla.
So this place is Definitely worth The Visit. I will definitely come here again.
But be careful: You could hurt yourself at a place like this.
As for me I managed to leave Before that point. I even left with my dignity somewhat intact.... but only at the cost of significant self-sacrifice: i Limited myself to...
Read moreSo sad to write this but what a disappointment, 4 years in this town always loved the place but goes to say just how important it is to staff your business properly and have people that respect your business voice and morals, I spent 19$ + tips on two banana splits and the cost is not even the problem I asked if I could choose the flavors on it and she said it comes with a vanilla and chocolate scoop you can replace either for week flavor cookie crunch . So I asked her to replace the vanilla scoop for cookie crunch on both pretty easy request, she hands me one banana split with Two scoops of cookie crunch and another all chocolate... so I'm being the nice person I usually I'm didn't even mind it and y tried to enjoy my ice cream when I noticed it was melted by the time I got to the car so my wife snatched it and took it back and asked if they cool swap the flavors for the ones I asked for, and never have I been questioned and confronted about a freaking ice cream... the girl said to my wife in a very bothered tone that we got what we ordered? Are you kidding me?! This place has to be going broke if im going to be denied of getting my 22$ dollar ice cream simply fixed just because a college girl didn't hear from her boyfriend today, I was left in awee when I saw my wife comeback with the same melted ice cream and her face said it all Kline's should be ashamed of this. This beyond...
Read moreI like the ice cream and the price is fair in both Kline's (Downtown and South Main Street). However, I will not give it 5 stars because last time I went to Kline's in South Main Street I was struggling with the pronunciation of some words (I'm an international student) and the girl had this unwelcoming expression that was basically calling me an idiot. You should always be cordial and helpful to someone whose native language is not English, especially in Harrisonburg, where 40% of the population is composed by non-Americans. She did not explain that the Waffle cone I was trying to order was extra, she was clearly impatient and I just felt judged and treated poorly. Customers should be treated well, regardless of anything. Also, lesson #1 when dealing with the...
