Hastings Tavern — Restaurant in Hastings

So I like to support local businesses, this is a local spot with a ton of potential. The menu is small but that can be a good thing. The food was good but could have been so much better. The service was on point and the price with the DMC card was acceptable. Overall was a good experience and will be back but here is some pointers for the back of the house staff. Ordered the Pho, flavor was right there and it was a nicely portioned bowl. The issue I had was the herb plate that was brought out was maybe enough for one bowl not two. We ordered the Mexican street corn dog as well and while the flavors were there the issue was the corn dog was barely warm. The issue here I believe was the hot dog was put out hot but all the cold ingredients were added and sucked away what heat the corn dog had to start off with. Overall the flavors were there but needs to be served better. The chicken finger plate we had was on point which led me to the conclusion about the corn dogs. I am shocked that we were treated this way at The Tavern He won 259 on pull tabs the bartender on Wednesday night said I suppose I won't get a tip out of this then he won 100 and bartender said same thing again then as we got ready to go he left a ten dollar tip and bartender said that's all I get for winning 350 same exchange of words then he was told not to come back Since when is it required to tip I also worked in the service industry for over 30 years and never asked a customer for a tip This was a unbelievable display of professional behavior. No one required to tip. I know service industry pay scale is low but you should never depend on tips PS... I always gave a 20.00 tip if he didn't leave one so they were...

We make a point to go out on a Friday Martini Night in Hastings. Keeping it local and no chains. Decided to try the Hastings Social Tavern. Liked the place as we entered. Nice mix of people & furniture. Bartender very busy as there was no waitress. She had to attend to bar, the floor tables & guys playing pool as well as tend the pull tabs. Will say Johanna did her duties admirably. Made perfect dry Bombay Sapphire Martini with a tetch of olive juice. She was very personal & engaging. As a former bartender the bar is awkward for efficiency & services. Needs a shortcut from bar to tables. Toooo much walking. Anyway menu looks interesting so we'll try it soon.
