Refund desired. We were gifted a much needed “date night” and decided to give this place a try. We left wishing we hadn’t wasted our money.
The food was on bizarre tiny trays, mediocre, we got cheese curds and they were good but all clumped together in a bucket. Fries and tots were good. I got the impression the cook was maybe new? I worked in food service for years. Took quite a bit for what we ordered.
We were brought a drink that we hadn’t ordered that was for another table. The restaurant was basically empty and we were sat right up next to another family and it was a bit awkward. The front of house staff were kind but seemed a little slow and unsure of what they were doing, odd timing and whatnot. Obviously trying to do the best they could.
We got our meals. Mine was the wrong menu item and I said no worries, I’d just try it. They didn’t listen, immediately ran away with it. They insisted on getting me the right food after admitting they’d punched it in wrong. I was grateful for the effort but was not given a choice in the matter. I would have preferred to just have eaten the wrong thing. So, I sat and watched my husband and son eat while I waited for my meal. I got fish tacos which were “ok” nothing I’d order again. Two tiny tacos with cold tortillas and maybe 1.5-2 oz of fish each for $17(this meal should be $10 max. My husband was let down by the quarry burger. We were led to believe the burgers were large in other reviews and they seemed to maybe be 1/4#? His was the same size as the kids burger. They looked hand pattied and juicy. Under seasoned. Tots undercooked a bit. Good ranch. Great French fries. My sons cheeseburger meal looked the best out of everything.
We ordered a side of onion rings. $5-They were the breaking point- from average meal to, ok, why did we come here…it was like biting into a sponge. Tasted funny. Not edible. I left them. Something was wrong with the batter. (I didn’t bother mentioning anything when we were there because I really didn’t want to have to bring up issues when we’re trying to have a relaxing night out. We grinned and beared it. We got fed and that was the goal.)
Then we were asked if we wanted a box when we didn’t eat them, I said no thank you. She noticed our son liked the pickles and brought him more pickles in a little box which was kind, and I put the onion rings in the box, thinking, maybe they’re undercooked and I could air fry them and make them crispy at home? Then, we were suddenly brought a huge box with more of them? Probably from the first wrong order? We tossed all of it.
The whole visit there was an obvious awkward tension from the server trying to make it right and we were grateful for her efforts. I declined a receipt but wish I’d asked for one, because after going home and doing the math, we’re almost positive we got charged for the wrong meal and the new meal as our bill wound up being around $72, $84 after tip. Pretty outrageous for a mom dad and kid. Minneapolis prices. We got-curds, fish tacos, a burger, upgraded to tots, a kids meal, a side order of onion rings, and one cider. Something doesn’t add up.
I honestly hope some management reads this and refunds our tab. I’ll probably call tomorrow. We will most likely not be back. Overall, small portions that are far too expensive for the area, their menu needs some consultation to adjust to the local marketplace or portion accordingly. It would be a fun place to have drinks. We were hoping we found our new burger spot, but not the case.
They have a rock throwing area in back and the server gave us a free bucket for our troubles. That area was cute and fun. Overall atmosphere was good. Had to walk pretty far for parking, even on a Wednesday. I don’t typically leave reviews, but wanted to save others the trouble or give the management a chance to correct the problems we encountered. We were thankful for the meal, but it was a huge let...
Read moreThis place just opened a couple of months ago. We went there soon after opening. The food and drinks are great an so is the staff. What really set them apart for me happened this last weekend. We had planned our wedding for Saturday at Levee Park here in Hastings. Well, wouldn’t you know it, Friday morning, Saturday was forecast for rain from 3:00 pm on. Everyplace in town was booked for an inside venue. We called a friend who worked at The Quarry Taphouse and they said that their upper room wasn’t being used and they would check with the owner to see if he would make it available to us. Long story short, the new owner not only hooked us up with the venue, but got us additional seating and tables from his other business along with a couple of his downstairs staff to bartend! We had an entire change of venue scheduled and set up the day before the wedding in a matter of 4 hours and everything went off the next day without a hitch! This is a small town business with a huge heart! Thank you so much to Randy, Vicki, and all the others at The Quarry Taphouse that saved the day and made our wedding...
Read moreFirst try at newly owned bar/restaurant. Enjoyed the newly opened up bar area with updated lighting. Burgers were very tasty, filling but not huge. Fries crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked. Service very good, efficient and friendly. The rock throwing area looks fun for kids. The downside is the drink pricing. $12.50 for a VERY small drink. $ 8.50 for a tap. Our bill for two burgers, two drinks was over 50$ plus tip. This is high for our area. These are downtown Stillwater (prime tourist area) or Minneapolis prices but located in Hastings MN. These are very much higher than drinks in other area bars. Without any happy hour specials, I fear this will result in lost customers, no matter how good the food is or the service either. Old FSH customers are used to good specials on apps and drinks. I don't see any specials on food or drinks with this new ownership. I'd hate to see that really cut into overall sales especially with new apartments going in at both ends of town. There is a huge potential for new customers if they are...
