Affordable, friendly, clean, good food. I was in the mood for Fish and Chips. The term “Fish and Chips” comes from England and it absolutely has a specific meaning in the description of what you’d receive if ordered. The fish being cooked in a very specific way, not just any fish battered with bread crumbs and fried (like say fried flounder). The term “Chips” is not a synonym for any French fry, it is a very specific cut and style french fry.
Boccella’s is nicely making a fried fish (cod) laying on top of a bed of their take on French fries. It is not “Fish and Chips”, not even remotely close. it is (proper description): two ample portions of breaded Cod on a bed of Boccella’s crispy seasoned fries w/coleslaw and cornbread hush puppies, and a choice of tarter or cocktail sauce.
And, it tasted fine, the $5.99 price is amazing but accurate for what you get. However, be warned it is false advertising- it is not “Fish and Chips”. It’s fish, fries -n- slaw w/hp.
So, 4 stars is based of price to food to quality of that food ratio. I’m being kind about how really annoyed I was it wasn’t really fish-n-chips; no need for the Malt vinegar. I like this neighborhood eatery with cool dry goods on the shelves. This was the first time I ordered something other then a hoagie.
Btw - the slaw was very good, but the star was actually the real cornbread hush puppies, wow, usually dry and lackluster, Boccella’s knows how to make these moist and really tasty! :0)
Casual, satisfying, good-eat’in fare at great prices, they’re gett’in the job done and you’re happy to give them your repeat business. I will definitely continue to get lunch and occasional dinners here - people there are...
Read moreBuyer beware. The menu is out of date and they do not care. I just purchased a salad. The menu displayed one price - the woman cashier rang up another higher price. When I asked "why does the menu display a different price than what she rang up" her response was "oh, that's an old price". That is an exact quote. Why are there old prices on the menu? She acted as though it was appropriate to have a misleading menu. I am referring to the huge menu that one sees as you walk into the deli. I will not return. I am looking into how to report this deli to the Better Business Bureau. Yes, I am a big dope to still buy the salad. Dishonest dealings. My goodness! They get one star because of dishonesty. PLEASE - CONFIRM THE PRICE THAT YOU ARE PAYING - FOR YOUR FOOD. ASK FOR A RECEIPT. YOU MAY BE OVERCHARGED. I was. It's a real shame because the food is tasty. This occurred at 8 PM Friday...
Read moreThis place used to be one of my favorites. I loved this place several years ago. They had great food, large hoagies, loaded with meat, sandwiches at reasonable prices. For years we bought the larger hoagies for our parties. Then things went up and down. Once time good, next time bad. The past 2 times it has been bad. Never buy roast pork there. This past trip, we bought hoagies, wraps and steaks and 3 of the 6 of us were very sick. The food looked good except for the turkey hoagie which was not as good as Wawa, very little meat. If you like hoagies with very little meat, go to Wawa and this place. Wish they would go back to...
