We chose your restaurant for Father's Day, coinciding with my husband’s birthday. While we made reservations and were seated promptly, we were placed at a table meant for four rather than five. This became an issue, especially given the nature of BBQ dining with shared sides and large trays of food.
Our server took our order but unfortunately didn’t engage with us. We didn’t have enough place settings and had to retrieve them from another table. The appetizer wasn’t ordered before our main meal, so it arrived at the same time, which disrupted the flow of our dining experience.
Throughout our meal, there wasn’t any follow-up regarding drink refills or how we were enjoying the food. While the server wasn’t overwhelmed, she spent time talking with other staff rather than checking in with us. After finishing our meal, we waited about 10 minutes before she approached us asking if we wanted the check. Although we had plenty of leftovers, she didn’t offer us boxes until we asked, and even then, she didn’t assist in clearing space on the table to make that easier.
The food quality was good, but the overall service fell short of expectations for a celebration. A little more attentiveness and engagement would have enhanced our experience significantly. It’s worth noting that at a similar price point, I recently dined at another local restaurant with noticeably better service.
While I typically leave a tip of 20-30%, I adjusted mine to 15% reflecting the experience rather than the quality of the food. I hope this feedback will encourage the staff to engage more with guests, which in turn can elevate the overall experience and result in greater tips and return guests. Had she took the time to engage she would have d learned what we were there celebrating. She missed an opportunity to wish my husband a happy birthday. She never said happy Father’s Day. No genuine hospitality, and with that price point I would...
Read moreOrdered here last night for the first time, since it was no longer Ardmore Q. Food was alright and there was a bit of a wait, could have been because they were super busy with people dining inside and out. However, food was not ready when I got there, and I waited a few minutes past my pick up time but they were nice and accommodating. So for the food, the pulled pork was only enough for one person which was disappointing for the price but it wasn't too bad . The ribs and fries were awesome. Ribs had good flavor.
As for the mac and cheese..... I am always skeptical about trying mac and cheese from places. I got two mac and cheese's(incase it was good we would have enough) an boy were they different. One tasted and resembled good ol' baked mac and cheese. The other one was not good at all... It didn't have the cheese in it ,was burnt on the top and watery. It was pretty much missing ALL of the ingredients that it needed. It was not good, threw it out the second I saw how the first one looked. . I will give one more chance and see how it goes. It could have just been an off night for them, like I mentioned they were very swamped with diners.
UPDATE 7/03/21: Decided to give this place another shot since it's been a few months since the first time we tried it.Food was better than back in April when I had originally ordered. Food was hot and delivery was quick. The pulled pork was way more than my previous order. This time it was so much we each were able to have a nice amount per person which was nice.
As for the Mac and cheese.... I wasnt sure how it was going to taste once I opened the container and saw it. To my relief it was much better than the first order (which was missing all the ingredients and was burnt and watery). Once eating it wasn't bad. However, a few parts tasted like pure salt, but just on the top. The rest of it was good. Glad I gave it a...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting Sophie's BBQ and I will definitely be coming back! My family and I were attending the A.J. Brown signing event at a nearby business and my husband wanted to give Sophie's BBQ a try for lunch. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and we were immediately seated. My husband had a cup of the French Onion soup while waiting for me and our son to join him. Hubby said it was the best French Onion soup he's had in a long time!
To start out, we ordered the Butterscotch Swirl Cornbread Basket which came with the most delicious homemade apple butter spread on the side! The apple butter was so good that we asked if they sell it packaged for takeout. Our server said no, but went to see if there was enough available to give us some to take home. She returned with a pint-sized container filled with freshly made aplle butter that had just come off the stove! One thing I want to say, we received EXCELLENT service! Our server was very helpful with suggestions and explaining the menu options to us.
For our main course, my husband and I shared a BBQ Platter with 1/2 pound pulled pork shoulder, BBQ beans, & baked mac & cheese. We also shared the Coffee-Rubbed Brisket. My son had the Smoked Duck Sandwich with fries. We shared an order of the Sweet Potato Hush Puppies which were delicious! The brisket was so good! Just the right amount of smoked meat, and the homemade sweet pickles on the side were a great compliment.
For dessert we had these Banana Creme Filled Donut pastry puffs with a raspberry dipping sauce. So good!!! Throughout our meal I had 2 of the Smoky Orchard Margaritas from their hand-crafted cocktail menu. It was a very good and not overly strong. A perfect lunchtime cocktail.
I would definitely recommend Sophie's BBQ to anyone considering a visit. Our total bill came to $173, but we left with enough leftovers for the weekend....
