Westgate Pub — Restaurant in Haverford Township

After our experience last night, I just had to do a review. After living in Havertown for 3 years and riding by this place a thousand times a day, we finally decided to try it and I’m so glad we did. From the time we walked in, the young guy greeted us with a smile and was so pleasant which made us feel so welcomed. We were seated right away and our waitress was Marie who was absolutely A1!!! OMG she was so sweet, so kind, so nice, so attentive. Our cups were never empty. Lol She told us about their popular dishes and what she suggests. We ordered the appetizers which were absolutely amazing. The food was so flavorful and came out hot. We had the cheesesteak rolls, boneless buffalo wings, chicken fingers, and mozzarella sticks. Then for our meals, we had the salmon (which was cooked to perfection), white rice, and green beans, our sons had cheese pizza and the salmon Alfredo which was so good and my husband had the cheese steak which he loved and it’s hard to please him with cheese steaks. Lol Marie was so attentive as was the younger guy that was helping her. I’m assuming the owner was the gentleman that had the green shirt on, but he was so nice with all the guest, help bringing out food and drinks and making sure everyone was okay. I don't normally write reviews but after what I saw I need to share this. Although it was a very busy Saturday evening I ordered takeout and was told 20 minutes. After getting there and waiting 10 minutes my order wasn't even on the grill yet. A little communication would have gone a long way. But in the 10 minutes I was waiting before I learned my order wasn't even cooked yet I watched a short-handed kitchen staff make several unsanitary mistakes. One huge mistake on owner and staff is not wearing gloves. I watched a kitchen staff member wipe his sweaty forehead and not wash his hands and continue to handle orders, food & money. After wiping his sweaty forehead and wiping his hands on a dirty bar rag hanging from his pants he handled money to ring a customer up who was still waiting for fries & the rest of their order, then with bare hands He took a chicken cutlet out of a fryer that was being shared with french fries then took the french fries empty them into a bowl where he used his hands once again to separate them into styrofoam takeout containers! Another kitchen staff member plunged his hands into a bucket of clams and then continue to prepare other foods without washing his hands! Hand washing and glove changing... wearing gloves for that matter is a must in food service this establishment does use gloves and from what I observed of the kitchen and staff it's not a sanitary...

It breaks my heart to write this review. I've been a customer of Westgate Pub for decades. Both in-restaurant + takeout, my fam + I've always been 100% satisfied with our food... until the last time we ordered, 2 weeks ago. I've been a huge fan of their fish + chips for years. Batter-dipped fresh fish, huge portions, with a side of fries that are almost as good as the fish. Not this time. What I received was so-so fish in hard, dry bread crumbs, accompanied by fries that were barely chewable. My Mom got the same thing, with the same result. All the fries were burnt, both my sweet potato waffle fries + my Mom's regular fries. Idk if they got a new, subpar cook or just ran out + served up frozen fish from Acme + someone else's refried french fries but it was horrible. I almost called to complain but what's the point? That bell cannot be un-rung. The meal was a disaster. I'm sad to say that we'll be looking elsewhere for dinner...
