Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Haverhill

Went this past fall. I don't expect much from Applebee's since I had problems with the service in Derry Applebee's, so my expectations weren't high, but I figured it would be OK to stop in for a drink and an appetizer. On the way into the building my girlfriend stopped to finish her cigarette, as she put it out we hugged and I gave her a peck on the cheek. As we were walking in, the manager came out and was completely rude to us. He told us our "behavior wasn't acceptable" and to not act like that out side his restaurant. I could understand if we were some teenagers getting hot and heavy, but we're both in our 40's and we don't believe in PSA. So I walked in the bar, and told the bartender that she lost money because of the rude manager. My girlfriend and I left and went to Longhorns right across the street. They were not only friendly, but they had heard stories about that same manager. A few weeks later I went to the applebees in Epping. They Are superb there, especially the bartenders. I also talked to some other patrons there and they said they heard about that manager too. Sorry Applebee's you lost me as a customer in Haverhill... I will visit Epping but I doubt I will ever eat a full meal at any applebees ever again. You lost me...

My wife and I dined at the Haverhill, MA location last night for the first time in 20 years of dining at an Applebee's.

The upside part of our visit was that the food was very good and the draft beer was ice cold. Our bartender was friendly and attentive to our needs.

The downside was that the atmosphere felt like a run down dive bar that you'd find in the slum part of a city or town. There was a gentleman at the bar that was throwing f-bombs the entire two hours we were there. I am shocked that the bartenders would allow that type of language considering there were many other patrons at the bar. He even tossed them when he would speak to the bartender and she never said a thing about it. Customers should not have to be subjected to that type of language at a public restaurant such as Applebee's.

There was also a gentleman sitting across the bar who was vaping while sitting at the bar. Disclaimer: I am not up to speed on all the laws for restaurants, but I would think that vaping would fall under the no smoking rules.

Whereas we live in Haverhill, I'd like to go there again, but I would be concerned that we'd be subjected to the same type of language...

The food was horrible!! I got the chicken lime fiesta plate and my chicken was burnt the appatizer I order which was the onion rings were black! Now I didn’t notice the chicken til after I go home so I wasn’t able to even enjoy my meal at all! The rice was so dry and tasted like straight plastic; however I did return the onion rings as soon as I seen them and the wait staff was very polite and didn’t give me a hard time about the exchange . I probably wouldn’t of asked them to fix my chicken anyways if I had seen it because I had to go back inside already and I just should never have to do this when getting food! I’m glade I didn’t have it delievered because then I really wouldn’t of gotten anything fixed! Their cook seems like he’s terrible or needs more help in the kitchen. But the food my man order which was the bud on street chicken and shrimp… he said was amazing! So idk I just got the shot end of the night cause I didn’t get to enjoy my...
