We had a out of state relatives come into town and I was very excited to invite them to have dinner with us at your restaurant in light of Gordon Ramsay’s recent visit. It’s been many years since I last ate at your restaurant. Couldn’t wait to see the changes. I read some recent reviews post remodel and was weary of dining here due to recent opinions on the service. Decided to give it a chance anyway. We tried to eat out on the deck but were asked to go to the bar area because that side of the restaurant was too busy. Mind you this was 3 in the in the afternoon on a Sunday. There had to be less than 20 guests dining in on the dining room/ deck side. We obliged and moved over to the bar area. I was taken back by how gorgeous the renovations were. There were maybe 3 guests seated at the bar area but tables were left dirty and we had to wait to be seated. Once we were seated we sat for about 20 minutes before a server noticed we were there. We waited about 25 minutes for drinks. When they did come out they were fantastic. Although we wanted to try the signature berry lemonade cocktail and were told they were out of the syrup to make it. I had seen many reports that apps were coming out at the same time as mains so I had my eyes peeled for that but the wings came out before the mains as they should have! They were amazing. I mean some of the best wings I’ve ever had. Unfortunately they took just over 30 minutes to arrive after being ordered. In total we waited at least and hour for the main courses. When everything did arrive the food was well executed and absolutely incredible despite a few sides making their way to the wrong plates and a missing side salad. I’m leaving three stars with the hope to return and change it to 5. There were plenty of staff on duty but it was more than apparent that there was a lack of communication & leadership in the front of house. Secret service just went live & you’re about to become internationally famous. Show us what you can really do! Capitalize on the opportunity you’ve been given! Make Havre De Grace proud. Make Gordon proud. The potential is unreal. EXECUTE. & once you’ve made a bit of money from the uptick in business maybe touch up the bathrooms a bit. That’s the only reason I gave 4 stars...
Read moreUse to be a go to spot when we visited Havre de Grace. Like to sit in the outside deck. The inside seating has glass wall for good view during the winter. My favorite was the burgers, fries and a house salad. I also ordered the Onion Soup or Cream of Crab Soup. Both were equal or better than any that I've had.
The past few trips were disappointing. Earlier this spring, I traveled alone from Baltimore to shop in town then eat, but the deck was reserved for a private event (don't recall if seating at the bar was reserved as well or whether it was offered as a option. Staff seemed preoccupied and inattentive, probably due to the event. Food was OK.
The last time my wife accompanied me, and we were looking forward to shopping and a meal. We went to the deck and were told to see the hostess inside. Once inside, we decided to stay indoors. Because the deck smelled like garbage or manure (possibly from active landscaping along the city waterfront, not related to the restaurant). The hostess gave us a choice of seats, and we picked a table a few feet away from her station. After a full 15 minutes I shrugged, and she asked if anyone had waited on us; she summoned the waitress from the deck, who asked if we sat without assistance. She took our drinks order. I heard the table behind us ask for more dinner rolls. When she returned, I asked for rolls. The waitress explained rolls aren't included unto after 4:00 they had rolls.
The menu had been reduced since my last visit. They remived the house salad, but offered a large Ceasar and a Wedge Salad priced as a meal. I ordered a burger with mayonnaise, but I got the wrong burger that came with bourbon sauce, which was another menu item, that was fine, but I asked for ketchup for the fries and didn't get it until the burger was almost finished.
I understand that the declining economy and covid has hurt the industry. They had a good thing for the past 12 years. I considered them to be 5 star for a Pub-style restaurant, but something changed. Even minor things like switching from plates to aluminum baking pans.
I haven't written them off yet, but I'll first try somewhere else next time...
Read moreMacGregor’s in Havre de Grace is not just a restaurant—it’s a full-on vibe.
After a full day roaming the local zoo—sun-kissed, snack-depleted, and trailing 8 enthusiastic kids—our out-of-town crew (12 deep!) needed a serious lunch break. We stumbled upon MacGregor’s in Havre de Grace, and let me tell you… fate was on our side.
We showed up with full-blown chaos energy, fully expecting a long wait. Nope. Seated instantly. Already impressed.
Enter: Brando. Our server. Our guide. Our surprise protagonist. He was everything you want in a hospitality hero—funny, unflappable, and weaving our group’s energy into effortless rhythm.
The food came out piping hot and plated with perfection—every single dish a win. I got the Crab dip to start off and then followed that up with the All American Burger, both were excellent. But the Strawberry Blondie dessert? That was transcendent. Warm, golden, strawberry-studded, perfectly melting into ice cream. We were floored to find out that this special culinary delight was crafted by non other than our beloved server, BRANDO! I mean what can’t he do?
Now let’s talk decor…. Perfection! The wall of green mailboxes was a showstopper for Sure. Beautiful light fixtures, striking wall art, Cozy chairs. So cozy that we commented on them out loud—only for Brando to drop the wildest bombshell of the afternoon: “Well thank Gordon Ramsay.” Cue confusion. Then he hits us with, “Oh, you don’t know?! We were on Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service.”
Cue audible gasps. Whispers. Suspense music playing in our minds. A ripple of disbelief and delight spreads across the table. Suddenly- This place went from great lunch spot to legendary story moment.
So if you find yourself in Havre de Grace, do yourself a favor: ask for Brando. Order the Blondie. And brace yourself—because MacGregor’s isn’t just another restaurant. It’s a five-star fever dream served with a...
