Chill counter service with table and bar seating overlooking Highway 560. Be in the know and watch the line of traffic exit the North Shore as you enjoy your takeout container great food that is made-to-order and served hot.
I had Da Local Plate, which included two scoops of rice (one under the meat), a scoop of mac and potato salad, grilled teri chicken and beef (good teri sauce that's thick and flavorful), and three deep fried breaded shrimp (tender and not overcooked). I also added a side of lightly breaded and fried onion strings with a chipotle aioli sauce in the side, which make a great companion to Da Plate. There is enough food to split this order between 2 people with moderate appetites. Service is provided by friendly staff that will bring your order to you when it's ready (usually about 10 minutes I average). So take a short break in Hanalei, avoid the one way bridge stress, and let the traffic clear while you enjoy a great...
Read moreThis is the best food truck on Kauai. We found it by accident but then made several trips to it, out of our way just for that darn good local plate.
Seriously though, the teriyaki chicken and other goods on the local plate are unbelievable. The combo potato/macaroni salad (which we normally would avoid) is actually amazing. The chili chicken is one of the best dishes I've had. Then we tried a burger and onion rings - also amazing.
If you're looking for solid food truck food with lots of options, from teriyaki chicken, hula burgers or local combo plates, this place has it at a great price and with generous portions. We ate there, on picnic benches in the yard of the church alongside a steady stream of locals, but we also took it to go- it was great both ways.
Also, the owners and workers behind this food truck are SOOO friendly - they did not make us feel like annoying tourists. So, whether you're local or a tourist, you'll be...
Read moreHad the big Nicks burger and it was ok but not $23 in my opinion. The fries were stale. Also had the Da Local Plate, proteins were great. But dammit, I am the kind of Asian that eat rice for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even snack! The rice was so damn undercooked, it still had hard lumps in the grain. The 2 scopes of rice were probably $5? The wife told the young server lady about it and the young man server overheard it and walked over to my wife and told my wife (and I Quote) "it's better eaten that way!" Are you freaking kidding me? You're gonna tell me how rice is better undercooked? If your restaurant is intentionally serves undercooked rice then, dammit, put it on the menu so I don't have to pay for something I can’t eat!
If rice is essential part of your meal, then this...
