I brought my midwestern USA-based family here for lunch this week. We started ordering and the woman at the counter (I forgot to catch her name but she said she was born and raised in Oahu but was of Portuguese decent rather than Hawaiian) stopped me mid-order, asked where I was from, and then said "Don't order that, it's not as good as what you typically get in the mainland." She then explained what they are best known for and set us straight. We started over and put our four plate orders in based on her recommendations. Since it's all made fresh she began chatting with us about where we are from, where she's from, where her family lives on the islands, which islands we like best, etc. It was a great conversation. But best of all, she insisted on us sampling all of the poke dishes that were available! I have never tasted better Ahi and Tako than this! My favorite was the spicy smoked Tako. Then when our lunch was ready we struggled to finish it all; they do not skimp on portions here. We ate inside at one of the three 8-10 person benches. While it was somewhat busy the other lunch customers graciously offered to make room for us at the tables. I highly recommend trying this place, and hopefully you run into the woman that we spoke with. As this was our final day of our visit it really was a great way to cap...
Read moreNot bad, could be a little better. I had Fish n' Chips.
The french fries are awesome (don't change anything), and the fish itself is pretty good (although one piece was overcooked and too dry).
The batter needs more flavor. Maybe even just a little salt. Something. Beer batter maybe? It was crispy and flaky, but a little bland, so once I ran out of tartar sauce...
Which brings me to my last issue. Condiments in packets. The tartar sauce, especially, should be made fresh. You sell "fresh fish", why are you serving it with condiment packets? On top of not being as good as fresh made sauce, no one likes spending ten minutes squeezing sauce out of little packets while their food gets cold and their fingers get covered in sauce/ketchup. So put condiments in little plastic cups with lids, and make your own tartar sauce! Also, I needed about twice as much sauce and ketchup as I was given, so half my fish was eaten "dry" which just made the flavorlessness of the batter more noticeable. Honestly, if I had enough tartar sauce I might not have even noticed.
Also, you always serve fish n' chips with lemon wedges, who doesn't do that? 🤨
Definitely giving the place another shot. It's good, but I wasn't...
Read moreMy inlaws invited us to try Fresh Catch for the 1st time with them. My family has 5 + my friend from the mainland-her family also 5+ my inlaws made 12 in our party. We took up alot of space, (2 tables). If you've been here before you know there are about 9-11 tables here, 3 different sizes and we took 2 of the largest ones up. Well the atmosphere alone would keep me coming back. I watched as an Aunty asked to join 2 random fellas at their table for lunch followed by another single eating patron,. The place was PACKED but nobody seemed to be negative about it at all. 😁😁😁 I also was under the imp5they only served fish/seafood . I was wrong! So many choices and a great variety of plates for all kinds of people. My picky friends from Utah even enjoyed themselves. Poke is ON POINT! Yum. Definitely worth a try, it's in my top 5 faves in Kaneohe now. Garlic chicken and smoke tako were so AMAZING! The speedy FRIENDLY service also makes this...
