Food is ok, but we got overcharged. There’s pricing discrepancy for at least one item - Local Boy. On guest’s digital menu there’s only one option w/chicken that’s $32.95. On the cashier checkout machine, however, there’s another option w/ribs that costs much more at $45.95, which was what they charged us without telling us. When we realized the bill was higher than expected, I asked the cashier to print out the itemized receipt and found the discrepancy and ask for an explanation. To be clear, our entry did come with ribs, but we did not request it nor were we informed there would be a $13 surcharge for the ribs, since that option was not even on the menu. When I asked for the difference back, she was really reluctant and even asked me “why don’t you want to pay for the ribs since you were the one who ate it?” I told her I totally would if she did not withhold information on the pricing difference that’s not even on the menu. She then kinda blamed it on the IT person who created the half-baked digital menu. I insisted that we should not be paying for their internal mistake. After like five minutes discussion she finally gave in and returned me $11.45 out of the $13 (she deducted the after-tax price of $32.95 from the pre-tax $45.95, which was wrong math but whatever) while still rambling on about why we did not want to pay for it blah blah. I just wanted to end the conversation! Pretty disappointed, hope they can fix the menu bug and really hope it was an honest mistake not a...
Read moreWe were on our way to Kapolei from Honolulu, and we wanted hawaiian food.. searched on Yelp and this place popped up. I looked at a few reviews and saw some pictures...what got me decided to come here is their combination plates - a little taste of everything i wanted.
it was a group of 7 of us (with two kids) and we were not very hungry to begin with since we've been restaurants hopping.
We sat down and we ordered two Local Boy Combo. One with haupia and the other with Lomi Salmon. Then we ordered another extra haupia for everyone to try.
when the food came out it smelled really good. The short ribs was the star it was tender and juicy, perfectly charred. I also really like the pork lau lau. The kalua pork had a nice smokey flavor but rather mushy for me but the flavor was great! just the texture i wasn't fond of.
one thing that we noticed was the Lomi Salmon. we probably only found 2 small pieces of salmon. It looked more like a pico de gallo in my opinion. At first we didn't see any at all and i was about to let the staff know until we dug around and we did find 2 pieces or so. The lomi was not the greatest.
Aside from the lomi, everything else was delicious! i would definitely come back here again! We saw the table next to us with a gigantic poke nacho -- looked delicious yet intimidating! can't wait to go back to...
Read moreSadly, this place has gone downhill recently. I’ve been going here for years and have brought dozens of friends. It’s one of my go-to places. I took a friend today and was sorely disappointed. They’ve moved to a QR code menu. When I ordered, it charged me a $2 “convenience fee.” I’m supposed to pay a “convenience fee” for the waiter to not come to my table??? I also had to pay the tip on the QR menu before ordering…how do I know how the service will be?…more on that later. Prices had gone up…I get it, and don’t mind paying more for good food. I ordered a chorizo burrito…$30. Again, I don’t mind paying for good food. What came out was some sort of Frankenstein chicken burrito. I asked the waiter about it. After conferring with the cook, he said “the cook decided to add some chicken to your burrito.” What??? They just give me what they want me to eat, not what I want??? So, in the end, I paid $30 for a chicken burrito I didn’t order or want. Why would I pay a tip before finding out about this terrible service? I was very embarrassed to bring my friend here. Needless to say, I don’t think he’ll return. Unfortunately, I doubt I will either. This place used...
