I’ve had mixed experiences but ultimately this my favorite Grocer on island
I don’t need to explain as there are always different complexities that play into our daily living and experiences… but if you have a mostly consistent (7/10) trips into a store or restaurant… Specifically in the ‘Service arena’ try to remember this
Everyone has a bad day sometimes ( or all the time unfortunately for some) but they showed up for work and that deserves points regardless .
Imagine having 50 employees and one upsets a customer for whatever reason… by not responding to a complaint the right way or maybe being rude even…
But your establishment gets a bad review all because ‘that employee’ just got served divorce papers or perhaps had their hours cut and can’t make rent now… there’s a million tourists with apparently loads of money blazing thru here and it just doesn’t feel fair to that worker peddling two jobs at min wage… only to survive - yet they are expected to serve you with a smile no matter what every day with aloha
THAT SUCKS ! We never seem to think of that when ‘we are the one upset over something (probably petty?) & feeling cheated in the service arena because we are in Hawaii! Nobody is perfect and shouldn’t be held accountable to be so, every day all day, regardless of the destination being visited… it’s their home, Their land and their right to have an ‘off’ day just like the rest of the world.
Sorry to rant, felt compelled after a horrible experience yesterday and and an amazing one today at this location. I hope I continue to feel the compassion and spread Aloha “Lucky We Live Hawaii” Never ever...
Read moreWaikoloa KTA is rather inflated in their pricing. It's geared to the neighborhood, which tends towards the toney. Most stores are, though. So- that said, it's been there a long long time. It was the only standard larger market existing for the public between Waimea and Kona for many long years,- & it's priced right on par. The newer, larger, fancier stores have in general a wider selection and a higher standard of available goods and services. At lower prices- So! KTA's reputation is alot more 'down home' than the chain markets springing up all over, but for some reason it seems not to be competing well.. and though loyal local shoppers go there forever they are still found hunting so-called 'bargains' at the new Safeway! Imagine that! ,(My personal favorite food store on the island, if I could keep just one for grocery shopping in general? Overall pricing, service, and quality? Great selection of standards and local stuff? Kona Sak and Save. By far.)... and one no longer...
Read moreAfter buying a majority of our groceries at Costco, my wife and I wanted to pick up a few non-bulk sized items for our Airbnb. Upon entering the store we were greeted by two cashiers. We proceeded to purchase the following items: coffee, creamer, butter, margarita mix, and lime juice. While browsing the store we noticed that they have a hot food section that was in high demand. If you’re truly not interested in cooking, they have ready to eat breakfast options (eggs & sausage).
I know that tariffs, inflation, and the costs associated with transporting certain items to an island influence prices. With that being said, I have to point out that the prices are higher than usual. For example a small bag of local Kona coffee was $29. Please keep in mind that there aren’t many grocery stores in the village; therefore, your options...
