MY REVIEW: Paniolo Greens Waikoloa Village, HI (a Wyndham Destinations property-on the big Island of Hawaii) is located about 20 minutes north of the Kona Airport. I am a single senior male…and I would return to Paniolo Greens in a heartbeat. Keep that in mind as I share the following insights, that hopefully will help Paniolo Greens managers and owners to create an even better (perfect) destination. I checked in on an early Sunday evening…and was directed to my condo area and parking spot location (each unit has one assigned). Checking in after sunset is problematic due to poor lighting of the parking spots, the room location signage and the dark condo entrance area/door. (improvements needed) I would return to Paniolo Greens in a heartbeat. The Paniolo complex of buildings-rooms sits on a hillside with views of the valley below (looking toward the airport…and is very close (3-10 miles of some of the best beaches in HI). Overall, the rooms and grounds are exceptionally clean (no litter anywhere) and offer a quiet, tranquil, beautiful atmosphere…as is found all over the Big Island. Entertained is varied and available many hours of the day. A great entertainment complex is onsite that offers a pool/hot-tub/spa, a weight room, a pool table-foosball, wide screen TV, barbeque-patio area all adjacent to Tennis Courts. (All very nice, stylish and clean). They even have free beach-pool accessories available to borrow (chairs-coolers-floats etc.). The hot-tub/spa was very difficult to get into and out of for anyone over age 50…the first step to get in is excessive and the first step getting out is excessive. I personally could not use it. (improvements needed). I would return to Paniolo Greens in a heartbeat. All condos (mine was 2brm-2bath very roomy) feature beach-pool towels and a patio area with some type of perfect view. My ground floor unit was adjacent to the Golf Course…fabulous greenery views with wild turkeys greeting me each morning as I drank my local “Kona Coffee” and they begged for scraps. While housekeeping did not occur during my stay (you remove your own trash etc.) the owners and staff were cheerfully willing to accommodate my needs to refill any and all room supplies such as fresh coffee/tea, shampoo, tissues, paper towels, and other sundries. A Washer-Dryer was located in my condo (with detergent) Overall, the hotel and surrounding area is very clean and quiet…the only exception to that is the noise that ground floor rooms experience from the guest rooms above. Every innocent footstep above is LOUDLY heard below. I would return to Paniolo Greens in a heartbeat. Checking out policy is to depart by 10 am check out time. This policy may work for the complex but for me and others with late departure flights it is very cumbersome. Once again staff kindly cooperated with me allowing me a later check-out and access to the pool area (with a clean shower-shampoo etc.) all of which made my day and late flight much...
Read moreWhen I initially checked in to the resort I was given room I103 with my family we found the room was dirty and missing a lot of amenities i.e. toilet paper, paper towels and trash bags. It took over 1 1/2 to clean before I went back to the front desk to complain and pay the fee $10 a day air conditioner fee in a room that was over 90 degrees. I was offered free air for the week and the missing items. I also made the front desk aware of the the neighbors above who's kids running back and forth in the unit after all day and night. I was told about quiet hours and if they still making noise to call security. Two days later I go back to the front desk about the same neighbors and kids walking and running all hours and demanded they be moved or my family and I be moved. Finally the issued was addressed and my family and I was moved to I203 when we noticed the bugs and roaches were worse. More cleaning had to be done and more supplies needed. The room smelled like mold probably due to the old carpet and the wifi provided by the resort didn't stay connected in either room. The fan in my daughter's room didn't work nor the air conditioner vent. I was referred to this resort by my timeshare and so far this is the worst stay I have had in the three years I have own. It would have helped if the rooms were actually cleaned and free of bugs, stocked with supplies, working fans and equipment, and better wifi services for the amount of money spent for a week at this resort. I feel like a overpaid for subpar...
Read moreLet me start with the good. The resort is beautiful, the rooms are large and very lovely. I love the layout. The view of the golf course is also lovely and the patio is cute, the lady at the front desk was also super friendly and kind, which I love. Also, the WiFi is amazing here. Super fast and free. Who doesn't love free WiFi?
Sadly, I wish I could say that we had no problems, but we did. Our first room was in the A building and the moment I walked over to the outlet next to the window, I noticed the multitude of bugs on the curtain. Fruit flies, gnats, a mosquito hawk looking bug, all clustered up on the slightly see through curtains. There were so many that it overwhelmed my mother and I, so we called to get a new room. The lady at the front desk apologized and gave us a room on the second floor of the C building. We repacked everything into the car and got the new room key and parking pass and entered our new room. Because of what happened earlier, I checked the curtains and, yes there were fewer bugs but there were still bugs nonetheless. We called the front desk again about the problem and they stated that a person will come and spray our room so we left the resort to let the said sprayer do their work. Long story short, we came back three hours after and there was a gnat under my mother's sheets and a cockroach flew right past my face later that night and landed on the fridge that stood right next to me. I had all the lights on... Needless to say, I am...
