05/02/2025 (Fri) We stopped by after the beach, excited to try some fresh poke. We had the Ahi Sesame Shoyu and Ahi Spicy Oyster bowls.
While the variety of poke options was impressive, you can only choose either one type or two types per bowlāone type for $15.50 or two types for $18.50. There are no combo meals with side poke, and pricing is market-based, so we couldn't know the total cost in advance.š
Thereās no seating inside, and the picnic tables next door belong to another establishment, so we ended up eating on a bench outside the shop.
The rice was surprisingly firmāperhaps intentionally so, to avoid overpowering the pokeās flavorābut it was a bit too hard for our taste. The seasoning on the poke was lighter than expected, and since no sauce was added to the rice, we found ourselves eating plain white rice at the end.
Looking back, we realized that ordering two ahi-based pokes wasnāt the best choice. The flavors were too similar, and we got tired of the taste halfway through. So maybe it was just our selection or personal preference. Still, even with the friendly staff, we donāt think weād come back to try...

We were lucky not having to wait an insane amount of time to get some Poke at Suisan's. 10 AM seems to be a sweet spot to avoid the crowds. We ended up getting the Poke plate with the Classic Hawaiian Ahi, Ora King Salmon (with Wasabi) and crab salad. They were all so darn good -- the ahi was just right. I've had issues with ahi in poke being too chewy before. Not here. It was top notch.
The Ora King Salmon was definitely the star of the show. I haven't had anything like this in any of the Poke places in the Bay Area--super unique. The crab salad was decent, nothing to write home about.
If the food was as amazing as I've described, then why only 4 stars? We wanted to get the lobster salad, and one of the employees said that we can get it as an option on our Poke plate. But the employee making our order said that the lobster salad is not available for the Poke Plate. So which one is it? Communication is already hard because we're all wearing masks, and stuff like this just makes it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreQuick Summary This was my favorite poke spot on the Big Island. The quality of the fish was superb and I liked their variety of options (e.g. yuzu shoyu scallop and butter garlic Kauai prawns which were my favorites and recommendations). Street parking only. I recommend getting your order and eating at the Liliuokalani Park and Gardens or Coconut Island nearby.
Food- 5 stars Best poke spot I've had on the Big Island. Fish quality was fantastic. But I especially liked the yuzu shoyu scallop and butter garlic Kauai prawns. Very balanced and not too salty
They also have poke on discount, fish steaks, and frozen products on their shelves, so a great place to stock up as well.
Service- 5 stars The staff members were very friendly and patient. Pretty easy and fast process
Bottom Line My favorite poke spot on the Big Island. Definitely stop by if you're in Hilo. You won't regret trying the...
