Gallina D' Oro — Restaurant in Healdsburg

We had tickets for a show at the Raven theater in Healdsburg and after some searching on Yelp I decided on Gallina D' Oro and booked a reservation. We chose the outdoor seating and were greeted instantly by a friendly server and the menus.

I ordered the Mezcal Sunset (Mezcal, passion fruit, pineapple, basil, ginger beer) and my wife had the La Pollita (Herradura Blanco, fresh lime, rich simple syrup). Both were delicious. We enjoyed chips and salsa while going over the menu - many good sounding choices.

My wife went with the Barbacoa Burrito and I ordered the Barbacoa plate. We both loved the flavor of the Barbacoa beef which was succulent, tender and full of flavor. We agreed that my choice was the winner of the two. While the burrito was very good - the Barbacoa beef in the plate which was served in a small pot allowed the flavor to stand on its own. I enjoyed the black beans and slightly spiced Spanish rice with the tortillas.

This was a Pick up Order. Unfortunately I feel it necessary to post this review. I am not one to usually do this because I have always felt there are good days and not so good days but...when you pay 70$ plus tip for 2 Burritos, a side of rice and beans and 1 chili relleno one would hope to have a fantastic dinner! NOT so, in fact we all agreed it was the second worst meal we have had in a Mexican(upscale) restaurant. The burritos were so dry that we had to open up our own salsa just to add some moisture :( The Chili Relleno had so much cheese that it was a blob glob of cheese that was overwhelming and the chili was almost non existent because of the ratio. I am a local Healdsburger and was a bit embarrassed by suggesting this restaurant to my out of town family. Very sad because they use to be a decent restaurant at affordable prices, but then again that is everything in Healdsburg. However restaurants should ALWAYS be on mark when it comes to the food...

Update: I was told I was yelling at them when I was clearly upset and I was hung up on by an employee and then the manager told me to ‘adjust my tone’ and that he could refund me cash for just my portion or come and get another burrito because I did not have the receipt. Incredible. Honestly, there are a million better Mexican places than this one!

Review: I am a vegetarian and asked for a roasted vegetables burrito and I got giant strands of MEAT in my burrito!!! Not just a piece of meat (which happens and it’s whatever), but actual full chunks of stringy meat. Not acceptable. I called them to complain, I was told I called too late (past 48 hours) and they needed a manager to call me back for a refund. When I made the order, I was very clear and asked for vegetables + beans + rice and other regular ingredients. Tuesday’s in the summer are a busy night at the plaza, but for a vegetarian, having meat in their dinner meal is pretty terrible! ...
