I travel quite a bit and stay in hotels ranging from the Embassy Suites to The Ritz Carlton. The Hotel Les Mars is NO Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons. In summary, it is exceptionally overpriced for what it is and the people who work there do not make any attempt to personally cater to you or even get to know your name.
My rating is "harsh" and is based on the room rate of about $1000 per night (with Taxes, etc). If this room had been $200-$300, it would have received ratings of Very Good to Excellent
On this trip, we visited the Ritz Carlton at Half Moon Bay and the Hotel Les Mars. When we arrived at the Ritz Carlton, the valet promptly met us took our car and luggage. By the time I reached the front door, the doorman already greeted me "Welcome Mr. Liss". Walking toward the front desk, one more person met me by name and when I got to the front desk, they once again greeted me "Checking in Mr. Liss?".
The Hotel Les Mars on the other hand was DOUBLE the price of the Ritz. The Hotel Les Mars has 13 rooms (or so). No valet. No doorman. You walk in and there is either no one in the lobby or a single person in the lobby. They ask you your name. They look you up on the computer.... seriously... they have 13 guests...that's it. They print some stuff on the computer (the Ritz had the room key and package ready before I got there).
During our 2 day stay there, we interacted with the front desk and other staff a dozen times. Each time, they greeted us with "what room number are you in"? Once again - are you kidding.. there are 13 rooms.
We were told how the room was decorated with a "blank check book" by a decorator who went to Europe. I wonder if they put money in that checking account. The fixture at the entry of the room is availble at Home Depot for less than $20. Some of the other fixtures feature very cheezy light bulbs that are supposed to look like candles - but just seem cheap and strange. There is no mini-bar. No-fridge. The TV and TV reception is terrible. They give you Comcast cable but for $1000 per night, 90% of the channels indicate that they are "not part of the subscription"... wow. No on demand movies. The shower is very average - at or below that of comparable Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton.
The workout room: Ha Ha. Why even bother. Seriously it is not as nice as a Courtyard by Marriott workout room.
Room service: We had it twice for breakfast. Day 1: We filled out their WRITTEN FORM. I guess they can't read since they left 1 of 3 items off our request. I called the desk. They did not even apologize. They said that the chef would deliver the item (oatmeal). Shortly the chef did deliver the item and did not apologize either. When we checked out, I was surprised that they charged me for the item... wow.
Day 2: Ordered continental breakfast by phone. It took 30 minutes to deliver "cold items". I did call the desk to check the status after about 20 minutes.
Even when I went to check out. They asked me "what room are you in"?
Overall, I really don't want to sound like a hotel snob, but at a $1000 per night, I would suggest that prospective guests consider staying at...
Read moreWe had the loveliest time at Hotel Les Mars! I'd go back again tomorrow! Our room was large and tastefully appointed. The bathroom was also spacious and had actual drawers in which to put our many items we need to get ready in the morning! But first of all, to me, the staff makes the difference when getting to your destination. Every single person who greeted us did so with a smile on his/her face, especially Trevor, who checked us in. There was never a time when we entered or left that a staff member didn't greet us with a friendly smile or welcome. We've been heading to Healdsburg, a very charming town, for many years but never stayed at Hotel Les Mars. We usually go for my birthday, in the beginning of July, and have stayed at a few different places. Hotel Les Mars was heads above the rest. Located just off the main Plaza, it's easy enough to shop and return your treasures to your room before returning to lunch or dinner. Treat yourself to a wonderful vacation there--I highly recommend it. By the way, they will make wine tasting reservations at some nice wineries and make sure the tasting is comped. We had a really great time, and I can't...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived at Hotel Les Mars, we were greeted with a warm welcome and a glass of sparkling wine at the front desk. The property itself is simply stunning, nestled in the heart of Healdsburg and exuding charm with its elegant architecture and meticulous attention to detail. We felt like we were in a French chateau!
Our room was a haven of comfort and elegance. The bed was divine, enveloped in luxurious linens that ensured a restful night's sleep. We were pampered with high-end lotions, shampoos, and conditioners, and the plush robes added a touch of indulgence. And who could resist the warm, freshly baked cookie that awaited us?
Maria went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and had everything we needed. She brought us extra towels, lotion, and anything else we requested. Her genuine warmth and attentiveness made us feel like cherished guests.
If you're seeking a luxurious escape in the heart of Sonoma Wine Country, look no further than Hotel Les Mars. It's an experience you won't soon...
