This was a great place to grab a satisfying lunch. We were on our way from a day at Hoover Dam headed for the National Parks area of Utah and wanted to get lunch before leaving the area. This came up as a place with good reviews. We like Greek food so we decided to give it a try.
It is located in the middle of a strip plaza on a major thoroughfare and therefore, easy to find. The area has a definitive suburban commercial feel. The format here is to walk-up to the counter to place your order and they then bring the food to you. The servers were pleasant, polite and helpful. That always elevates the experience. The seating area was sufficiently roomy and the ambiance was casual and quiet and apropos for a Greek restaurant.
There were several good choices and we were having a difficult time deciding how to moderate our amount of food for a midday meal. My wife spotted the Zeus Fries on the menu and, after getting a description, we decided to split an order of those. It was composed of fries topped with a mix of beef and lamb plus tomatoes, red onion, feta and what they called Zeus sauce. The latter was a spiced yellow cream sauce that was very good. A serving of this was more than enough for two as it was flavorful and on the heavy side. I also had a Greek Coffee, which was nicely done and my wife had a Refresher, which was a light, fruity drink that was appropriate for the 100-plus degree day we were experiencing at the time. For dessert, there was a Dubai Truffle that we had our eye on that was also big enough to split. That was a nice finishing touch.
Our bill (paying with credit) with food, drink, tax and tip was $44. At $22 per person, this is a little expensive for lunch at a semi-fast food/deli style place, but at the same time the quality was very good. I had to think a bit about whether the value was there to keep it at five stars and I decided it was. The interesting thing is that, had we visited for dinner, we probably would have paid about the same. And i would not have thought twice about that amount for dinner. We could have knocked about $14 off the bill (including less tax and tip) by skipping the drinks, and maybe that is worth considering.
If you like Greek food, this is a good bet. We would certainly try it again if we were in the area. The food is great and I think the value could be especially good at...
Read more8/12/24: just learned that this restaurant is under new ownership and since I have not eaten at the restaurant under the new ownership, I cannot vouch for it. Glancing at the menu online, I am sad to see it is more Americanized Mediterranean than authentic Greek. BUT, for now I am leaving my good reviews for the original restaurant and will report back if I go in and try the new menu. I do want to state that from some of the pictures posted, some of the original desserts may be back, which would definitely be a plus for me. 02/10/23 Update: have now eaten dinner here twice and lunch once and it has not disappointed. Adding to the recommendations are the Pita Gyro, Green (Marouli) salad, Moussaka, Pork chops and we finally tried one of their cakes, the Orange Chocolate Mousse cake, which was just fabulous! Not too sweet, fresh and light and perfect for sharing.
Went for dinner this past Saturday (for the first time) and it was absolutely delicious! The service was great, very friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, the restaurant itself was very nice. We shared the Original Greek Village Salad and it was very fresh and tasty, you could tell a high quality olive oil was used. I had the chicken Souvlaki platter and everything was yummy, chicken was flavorful and not dry, the tzatziki sauce was fantastic and the fries were crispy. Also, their pita bread is scrumptious. My husband had the Papoutsaki (baked eggplant stuffed with ground beef/cheese) and it came with some slices of baguette and a small green salad. He devoured the whole thing, yum! Unfortunately we had no room for dessert but we'll be going back as the desserts looked fabulous plus I would also like to try their breakfast menu. Highly recommend...
Read moreNever once yelled. I had family around when I was on the phone the night before and they all said I wasn’t yelling at all. I literally never yelled even when I went in. Owner then argued on the phone when I called and made me bring in cake the next day. I show up and they act like I’m crazy and push the cake back at me saying they didn’t tell me to bring it in. They kept pushing me to get food instead of my money back even though I kept saying I didn’t want any food. They both ganged up on me and made it extremely awkward. They harassed me and made a scene. The husband says “We are only human” and acted very dramatic. It was the oddest experience. I literally sat in my car for 10 min in shock at this exchange. When a tiny cake is 15$ and the owner convinces you to buy it and it’s literally ALL cheap frosting with barely any cake then I want a refund. Understandably, especially in this economy. The other cake I bought for my aunt made her sick all night and the wings were so spicy I couldn’t eat them. The gyros were good though. I mentioned on the phone that I thought they should have it on the menu that it’s spicy and they argued about that too. **I spent 70$ there including a 10$ tip which I’m upset they put in now. I worked in restaurants and when a customer has a legitimate reason for a refund you just give it to them and move on. Complaining gives me anxiety and I don’t enjoy it and being forced to go in wasn’t fun for me. Now, I’ll never return to Hellas. I didn’t want to write this but I do not appreciate being harassed further by your reply to my blank 1...
