El Grullense Taqueria in Hendersonville is a must-visit spot if you're craving delicious Mexican food. This was my second time eating here, and both experiences were excellent. The first time, I opted for the drive-through and grabbed some tacos, which were absolutely delicious. They really hit the spot, with fresh ingredients and authentic flavors that stood out. This time, I decided to sit on their outdoor deck. There were plenty of seats available, which made for a nice, relaxed dining experience. It’s worth noting that El Grullense doesn’t offer table service, so you’ll need to order at the window. Despite that, the setup worked well, and it was easy to settle in and enjoy the surroundings while waiting for the food. Once again, the food was fantastic. Everything we ordered was flavorful and well-prepared, just like the first visit. The staff was also friendly and welcoming both times, adding to the overall great experience. If you’re in Hendersonville and looking for great Mexican food, I highly recommend giving El Grullense Taqueria a try, whether you’re grabbing a quick meal on the go or sitting down to enjoy your food. You won’t be disappointed!

1st time here. Several options you don’t see elsewhere. Head meat and tongue. These meats as far as I’ve seen aren’t at the more Americanized restaurants. I got the Sopes. I wasn’t really sure what they were. They were good and plentiful- however I took a bite of a pepper that burned the fire out of my mouth. I assumed it would be mild. They had glass bottle 1 Liter cokes which was pretty cool. As far as atmosphere- well the porch was hot and people were smoking. I hate smoking especially when I’m trying to enjoy eating. Also- not sure about the bathroom situation there? It’s in the kitchen? Parking was ambiguous. A landscape truck was blocking the only few parking spots up front and there seemed to be no other real parking spots available. We found a spot by the dumpster. Anyway- food overall was good, authentic. Don’t expect “free chips and salsa” like most sit down restaurants. Walk up window and drive thru are your ordering options. No adult drinks! My suggestion. Just do drive thru. You will wait for fresh food- but you will most likely enjoy.

I cannot say enough about the al pastor tacos I had here! Perfect marinade, with the meat having the crunchy exterior fro being cooked perfect. I wish I had room to eat more! The restaurant itself is small. You either order from the walk-up window on the front deck, or you use the drive through. My tacos were brought to my car probably about 5min after I ordered. They were so hot, so you know they’re fresh. Two small containers of salsa are also provided: a green and a red. The meat was so flavorful I didn’t use either. If I’m in the Hendersonville area again, this is a must stop for me!

Been going here for many years and have probably spent thousands of dollars here. For years I was going weekly. I have always loved the food (as someone from California who loves authentic Mexican), but I think I'm done going. I have always tried to act extremely respectful with these people. With 14yrs of security and law enforcement experience, I understand completely about treating people with respect, but I do not feel respected when coming here. The lady who works the window has seemed nice for a majority of my visits. I've never had any issue with her and I have always tried to go above and beyond to be nice to her, but she won't even attempt to respond to my kindness. If I say "hey how are you?" She doesnt seem to care to engage. Fair enough and not a problem.

My problem arose because every time I visited, I would ask for extra green sauce. They could charge me for the extra sauce, thats fine. I generally paid $20 on my visit's so I figured what's an extra thing of green sauce. They leave bottles of it outside for people to use as much as they want. Not a problem I thought. I asked maybe 6 times in a row, and literally every single time they wouldn't give it to me. Finally, one day when receiving my food (which she handed to me and quickly walked back towards the door), I quickly checked my bag and saw she didnt put green sauce in the bag. I quickly asked her before she went back inside. She came back. I asked her if there was an issue with getting extra green sauce and that I didnt mind paying for extra. I tried to ask in a way that didnt come off as disrespectful even though i was irritated. She said something along the lines of "I'll get some" while ignoring my questions, not apologizing, etc, and walked back inside. Then a guy came out with the green sauce.

I also had a couple of other issues at this place. One is that I drove up one day as I was heading to work. I sat at the window for at least 10min (not exaggerating) and she walked by the window many times but she wouldn't open the window to acknowledge me at all. I was seriously like what's going on.. I had to get to work so I just left. Now, I worked for a sheriff dept and was in uniform. Maybe she doesnt like law enforcement? I dont know. Maybe thats not the case, but it was interesting to speculate on because this happened before the green sauce issues above. The lady also never seemed to want to be nice so I couldnt help to wonder if she just didnt like law enforcement, or if it was my race, or if thats just how she is to everyone.

The third issue I had is that I ordered 2 al pastor tostadas. I received them but they had literally zero meat on them. I let her know and she said "we'll fix it", but didnt seem to care. Then turned towards the other employees and laughed. I was confused because I had to wait extra time over that. No apology for that is a little wild. That seemed a little immature and like they really didnt care that I had to wait and go through that because of their mistake. It was genuinely immature behavior that I'd expect from teenagers.

I also see that the owner of this restaurant doesnt read and respond to the reviews with valid complaints. Maybe its due to a language barrier, but with AI like Chatgpt and google translate, there is no reason they can't read the reviews and translate responses back to address what appears to be valid complaints.

I dont know what the ladies deal is. Ive had significantly more stressful jobs and I still didn't treat people poorly. Theres another decent/similar looking authentic option just...
