A late lunch, and my first choice for an Italian sub was temporarily closed.
"Back in 20 minutes!" (Good for you; not so good for me.)
On a lark and given it was close & open, I chose Twisted Sweets & Savory. From the name, I never would have predicted sandwiches on the menu.
I ordered the Hungarian, figuring it's the heritage sandwich. To feed my craving, I bought an Italian too to feed my craving.
The pluses: Very fresh food, served fast. The peppers & cucumbers tasted great & were delightfully crunchy.
The minuses: The bread is, well, different. It's a bread tube. While the concept is fun, the taste wasn't much. Cheese (think Asiago bagel in appearance), Jalapeño, and ET. Bread makes the sandwich, and the tube is more of a novelty.
The possibilities: There are a bunch of savory choices, tempting enough to make another visit to try them all and their fillings.
There are two front doors about 15 feet apart. Maybe post a sign with an arrow directing guests to the main entrance?
I wish the owners good luck. Opening and operating a restaurant, especially a little bit off the beaten path, is tough.
My first visit to the Italian Store in Lyons Village, the Lost Dog in Westover, and Chase the Submarine made me "hungry" to come back.

Read moreMy first visit to Twisted Sweets largely exceeded my expectations. I had Kurtos Kolacz many times before (in Europe) and I was so excited to see that I can have one near when I crave them. I had not one …but 7 because they were that delicious. My son enjoyed them as much as I did and we shared with friends (who knew what to expect because they also had them in Europe). Needless to say that everyone was impressed and I will be there in the near future for more Kurtos. The owner is a sweetheart and she will go above and beyond to make her customers happy, she works in the kitchen preparing the delicious food (I had soups there as well and I saw people eating their sandwiches and they finished everything to the last bite). Next time I will have a sandwich as well in addition to my Kurtos. I recommend ordering your Kurtos in advance and ask for it to be warm (there is nothing more delicious than a warm Kurtos). It was definitely worth one hour drive to get there. I couldn’t recommend this gem of a place more. If you know Kurtos, you know what I am talking about. And if you don’t know Kurtos, it’s time to try one and you will be forever addicted. Kurtos is also called...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of eating at Twisted Sweets & Savory in Herndon and I must say their name was ALL THAT and just an absolute delight! The cinnamon chimney with both vanilla🍦and chocolate🍫 ice cream 🍨 flavors were incredibly delicious, boasting the perfect balance of sweetness and creamy texture with the perfect flaky crust with cinnamon and sugar 🤤
But the true star of the show was the Italian sandwich. It was hands down one of the best Italian sandwiches I've ever had in my life! The crunch of the fresh veggies paired with the savory meats and just the right amount of bread made for a not watering experience that I won't soon forget.
The atmosphere was cozy and inviting and the service was quick and top notch. The owners are very friendly and pleasant and you can tell they put their heart ❤️ into this place. I think there should be one of these in every town & state hands down. If the rest of the world only knew what this tastes like and how good this place was... An absolute Gem 💎 this place is, I'm not exaggerating. I am looking forward to their future and really hope to see...
