It was a true sacrifice of my time to write this review because like many people I'm way too busy with everyday life, but I had to voice my dissatisfaction. I had not eaten at CG in at least 2 years for reasons that I won't go into here but decided to give them a try after so long. My first visit was about a week ago on a Sunday and I dined in. The food was piping hot and I enjoyed the whitefish. However, my sweet potato left a lot to be desired, it was still firm in the middle, not cooked soft to my liking but I didn't make a fuss about it. I just ate around the middle. On my second visit on 2/4, I did carry out. I did not call in, made my order at the counter and waited. It came out in less than 10 minutes. Once I got home, which is literally around the corner, I had no sugar and cinnamon for my sweet potato and the potato was huge. Once again, it was too firm so I had to nuke it in the microwave to cook it more. The most appalling thing was the very small amount of fish I received for an $11.00 regular plate. 4 very small pieces of lukewarm whitefish, almost cold hushpuppies and a half baked sweet potato. I waited for this, so it all should have come out very hot. I know restaurants are suffering with the current circumstances but c'mon, if the fish are small, it is not going to hurt to throw in an extra piece for the amount you're charging. To top it all off, the young lady at the counter right off the bat asked me if I wanted the senior plate. Now, good customer service would never assume a person's age and risk the chance of offending someone. I'm in my 50's but she just should have asked what size plate I wanted and left it to me if I wanted to ask for a senior plate. Maybe all of this is nit picky but my money is hard earned and I'd like to receive good consistent service if I frequent an eating establishment. I probably won't chance going back and just stick to another fish establishment...
Read moreMy family has frequented the locally owned, Captain’s Galley of Hickory for many years. Not only because the seafood is exceptional, but the service is bar none! You can really see the care & pride that the owners of Captain’s Galley put into their business. Where would you see not the managers, but the owners of a restaurant, regularly come out in the dining room to ensure that their customers are being taken care of… The answer – Captain’s Galley of Hickory! You do not get this level of quality service at a corporate restaurant. The attention to detail & care for their patrons truly shows in the excellent quality of food served, to the attentive and courteous wait staff at Captain’s Galley. Back on March 17th 2020, when COVID-19 effected our North Carolina restaurants and were ordered to close in-house dining, the only restaurant that our family wanted to go sit down & eat our ‘final dine-in meal’ was at Captain’s Galley. We made it to the restaurant just before the shutdown was to occur, and instead of being turned away, we were welcomed in with a smile & was personally served by the owner. With looming trying & uncertain times ahead, we were so grateful for this kind gesture, that we left the attached note with our tip that meal. Praying that Captain’s Galley would survive this COVID-19 storm. Luckily, Captain’s Galley already had a wonderful take out process in place for many years. During the COVID-19 lockdown, we were still able to enjoy the wonderful seafood at Captain’s Galley, through their take out service. So, as you can tell, Captain’s Galley is not simply a restaurant to grab a quick lunch or dinner, but for my family, and many others in the Catawba Valley area, they are like family. May God bless the owners and staff of Captain’s Galley of Hickory, and wishing you many, many fruitful years of...
Read moreWell, it’s just this simple….if you are in the Hickory area or happen to visit, then do yourself a favor and patronize this place. This was our first experience and it definitely won’t be the last.
Where do I begin….well, from the very beginning, when we walked in, we were met with a pleasant hostess, who was smiling and eager to assist. We were immediately seated and greeted by our waitress, who was very knowledgeable and able to provide us with every detail of the menu, as well as, she provided food suggestions. It was hard for us to make a decision because they offer a wide variety of choices.
Our food arrived fairly quickly considering that it was Father’s Day and pretty busy. The food was excellent and full of flavor. You could certainly tell that it was cooked and prepared with skill….remarkably good! We are some pretty hard people to please and they certainly exceeded our expectations!
The customer service and professionalism by the owners and staff is outstanding! We were greeted by the owner, Mrs. Chanika who came over and introduced herself. She shared stories with us about the establishment and also checked on us throughout our dinner.
I was highly impressed. After dinner, we sat outside on the benches in front of the restaurant and discussed what a delightful evening it was. They offer such a comfortable and welcoming environment and we did not want to leave!
The Galley made Father’s Day an enjoyable and memorable experience for my husband and his brothers! We are already planning...
