I read all the reviews before posting mines because I believe there is always more to the story than meets the eye. I did come to the conclusion that Advisors need help and my suggestion to CVCC is "Get New Fresh Young People". My experience was much worse than I read. I came in the Admissions office and a lady greeted me. Asked me to wait a couple of minutes while the admissions lady became available. When the she did become available we called out my name from across the room, never greet me, as soon as she saw me walk towards her she never even waited for me and shook my hand, nor welcomed me or anything. I am a professional, business owner and parent with I high ethics for customer service and by far she failed miserably. And this is the first face I see when trying to make a decision of whether or not should I study there. I made a comment in regards to if state credit vs residents and she was stone cold dry and cut. Catawba Valley Community College, you SHOULD NOT have personnel and staff members like this. She never invited me to apply or asked me questions or anything. I made most of the talking.
I asked a student that'd been there for some time and that person told me that that's how she felt but "most" of the professors did care. This is not acceptable. I did get one Professor/Staff Member to guide me to the Admissions office but can't really say it made a positive impact. Over all, I wanted to run out of that campus and never return. It really is a bummer because I was really really reeeaallyy looking forward to studying there. If I ever do I hope a lot changes by then. And i also hope that the President and Board of Directors of this CC take the time to read these reviews because now more than ever people are using these reviews to express their voices on what needs fixing. But I cannot tell you how disappointed I am in leaving the campus with such emptiness and...
Read moreEasy to register for classes after your first semester- you can even do it via the CVCC app on your phone. My first visit for registration for school was really terrible, felt more like they wanted me in & out rather than help. Aside from that they offer A LOT for degrees, certification & continue education! Shoot you can even take classes for hobbies like sewing, candle making, etc. I've even seen young kids here during summer for some art class. All the professors I've had so far are extremely caring, helpful & understanding. There's great amount of options for classes to take at all times of day, even evening/night (and of course online classes) which is super helpful as a full time employee & single mother. Sometimes you have to call & call & leave millions of messages before you get a reply from advising or testing center which can be annoying, I've learned email is usually the better route if available. They do respond eventually, sometimes you just gotta be persistent. They've got A LOT of students so I can understand why it can take a while to respond. Its easy to transfer your credits & placement test scores to other schools as well. I wish that the Alexander CVCC would expand & offer some core classes (like eng, psych, etc). I've enjoyed this school & the opportunities it...
Read moreMost of the courses are good and a lot of the instructors are very helpful and knowledgeable, but AVOID the medical courses if you can. The instructors don't seem to care to much if the students are prepared for a job. The materials and quizzes are almost pointless/useless because when it comes to the official tests that the class is supposed to be training you to pass, most of the material and training you have received is either outdated or not covered or a large portion isn't covered. Essentially you blow a huge amount of time and money into a class trying to get into something that you really enjoy and want to make a career out of, only to fail due to how poorly the class is designed and how poorly the instructors preform. To any considering a medical field, I recommend you go to Caldwell Community College or just about any...
