I have to start at the beginning: Walking into this street-side restaurant, you are slammed with a beautiful atmosphere. Rich dark wood and an almost jungle-like ambiance fill you with a sense of the exotic. The smell of Burmese spices and the light aftertones of incense (Nag Champa) increase that exotic vibe.
You are greeted by the friendliest of staff, who takes you to a table or booth. You are soon greeted by a delightful little rolling robotic "waiter" delivering water to your table. You then open your menu, and are greeted by the most intriguing looking dishes. You flip through the menu and, even more intriguing, you find the drink menu. Let me tell you, the drinks alone are worth the visit to this restaurant. Look through the photos of this restaurant on Google here, and you will see what I mean. The selection of beverages and alcohol choices are exceptional. The folks here have really curated a fabulous collection. The range of non-alcoholic beverages are greatly appreciated, as well, for those of us who prefer to abstain from those beverages.
Note: Get the mango juice. Even if you get one mango juice for the whole table, just get it. I mean, you have to be partial to mango to enjoy it, but if you are partial, you won't be disappointed!
I have had almost everything on the menu so far, but I am still working my way through each time I visit. The salad selection is absolutely phenomenal. You won't find these kinds of salads pretty much anywhere else. The ingredients that are used are so different than what most people are used to and, for my part, my mind was blown open just by the entree salads.
Beyond the salads, all of the hot food entrees and appetizers have been absolutely stunning. The rich and exotic flavors and spices used to flavor the dishes are unlike what you likely have access to. The best words my humble brain can come up with to describe these dishes are: warm, comforting, delightful, rich, tantalizing, moreish, exotic, colorful, alluring, and absolutely enticing.
Some of the dishes can be hot-SPICY. Your server will generally give you a friendly warning. I am in the realm of spice-weenie, and have less tolerance for the scoville scale, and a couple of the dishes were a bit too spicy for me, but I was warned beforehand! I appreciate that a great deal in restaurant service.
The dish I want to emphasize is the Khao Soi (Burmese Curried Coconut Noodle Soup). For those of you venturing out to this restaurant and have any nervousness, maybe consider starting with this beautiful dish. It is savory in the extreme, creamy, rich, and wonderful. You can get it completely vegan, or you can add chicken to it (which is my preferred way to have it). It is the quintessential "comfort food." And to talk it up even further, the portion is large, and it heats up later out of your to-go container VERY nicely. If you start with this dish, and you love it, chances are, you're going to love most of their menu. OR....You'll keep going back for the...
Read moreFood crime. The Crispy Beef sandwich I had delivered for takeout tonight was a food crime. If it was prepared as intended, please just pull it from the menu.
If it was prepared as intended, the Crispy Beef sandwich is an embarrassment. It's not worthy. Shun it. Shunnnnnnn iittttt. Smack the person on the nose who designed it and say, "No! Bad!"
I've had probably a half dozen 4-star meals with friends and family for takeout and dine-in between your Hillsboro location and my NW 21st neighborhood. Consistently tasty meals, though maybe a bit spendy for the portions. The staff and service are awesome.
But, tonight. Oh, epic failure of a sandwich, how you deceived me.
At first glance, it looked good! Nice bun! Condiments good! Mango chutney good, though not much of it! But the beef. The "beef" was just an abomination. Maybe 1.5 oz. of carbonized dental floss which sucked all the potential yum right out of the sandwich.
Take a look at the sandwich on the website. The beef looks crispy on the outside, but there's also recognizable savory normal beef-looking deliciousness on the inside it's attached to.
That's what I was hoping for. For $17.95.
I'm probably going to order it again next week through a friend's account, just to see if it was a mistake, because I otherwise really like your food!
I'll still come back with friends or family if invited, but based on my experience with this meal, I'd otherwise choose another unknown restaurant rather than order anything again from you which I previously liked.
Never so disappointed in a meal. My food soul is crushed....
Read moreOhhhh Top Burmese Ambassador we usually love your food but our last dine in experience was not the best. Usually the service is ok with the robots and everything and there is usually some personal interactions with staff checking in and seeing how everything is going. Asking if we need water refills or extra drinks or anything else we needed. The last time was on a Friday night and it wasn’t super busy or anything but the only person it seemed working was the bartender in the restaurant and everything else was having to order through the QR code. I wanted to order just a simple drink and not a fancy sugary filled drink off the menu but there was no option on that. There was a button at the table to request assistance and the button I think was either faulty or turned off. We pressed it numerous times and no one ever came over even though the light turned on when you pressed it. The food took a good wait. I would probably say about 40 mins to get our food. 2 staple entrees and an app. We had gone to the bar to order drinks after we ordered food due to the issue mentioned before and after ordering the drink I think the bartender forgot and it took a solid 25 mins to get a drink. Then while eating my food I found a hair in the food at this point I was over this all and didn’t want to make a big stink as they were busy and I didn’t have time to wait even longer as we had a time crunch at this point. I really used to enjoy your restaurant but from this last visit I probably will not go back due to...
