I’m sad to say I rate this a 2 based on customer service mostly.
It was my first time in and I loved the atmosphere, I’m currently a home-baker and loved walking in and seeing the lovely story of how this bakery came to fruition, as it’s a dream of my own. I walked around and smiled ear to ear just imagining Mindy bringing this place to everything she ever wanted!
On a more disappointing note the young gal cashing out the customers has poor customer service skills. I ordered one of each of the macarons (which she was calling macaroons), and a small coffee. She proceeded to check me out and brought me only three macarons and I kindly stated there were four in the display and she said no we only have three flavors…… the customer behind me confirmed that there were four and she continued to say there were only three. I pointed into the case and she took another look and seen the fourth one. Checked me out again for the last one and then I stood aside waiting for my coffee. There were no other customers and the other gal was serving the lady just behind me with macarons. I stood at the counter for about 8 more minutes as the gal that served me walked around into the back of the kitchen area and back out to the counter several times not acknowledging my presence as I waited. I was quite disappointed and decided to just leave…. 😣 The flavors of the macarons were not noticeable except for the lavender which was over powering and I could not finish.
I just know how much work and effort I put into my baked goods and I know I would want someone with excellent customer service representing my dreams...
Read moreFirstly, this review has nothing to do with the quality of the food or the service. Both are excellent. Secondly, this 'review' has been forwarded to the business in question for transparency's sake. ETA: No email can be found for the business in question, so I guess feedback isn't valued. Cool.
Is it possible to leave a review of a particularly bad patron? We went to DC early this morning, our second visit, and found things were quiet and rather nice, probably because it was a weekday at 0830. We took the table closest to the front door because we'd sat near the back door on our first visit, and we wanted to get a feel for the place to see if it could be on our list of regular hang-outs.
After we'd been sitting and eating (wonderful) sandwiches for about ten minutes, a tall man in joggers came blasting through the front door on his cell phone. He left the front door wide open, which was unpleasant because the front yard of DC was being mowed. He dropped his half gallon water bottle in the middle of an empty table, huffed through the space and then back again and out the front door. His cell phone call was put on speaker and he paced the front porch while speaking loudly into the thing. Then he came back in, stood in the middle of the dining area and continued his phone call at the top of his voice (still on speaker). Between the mower and the dude yelling into his phone, we called it quits.
So, terrible energy in the place and nobody said a word to Mr. Considerate, so I can only assume somebody knows somebody and this kind of behavior is either tolerated or not...
Read moreI’ve tried this place twice and have been underwhelmed both times by their cake. Most recently, I had the cake tasting box which contains all of their cake flavors.
They offer a variety of cake flavors which are aesthetically pleasing and range from traditional (birthday cake) to unique (matcha blackberry). However the cakes mostly come with either a yellow cake base (which is dry dry dry) or a chocolate cake base (which is weirdly fudgy but also somehow bland). The banana tarimasu seems to be a different base cake but tastes like dry banana bread that isn’t worth the calories. My group took one bite and tossed it. Sad.
The pink lady cake somewhat stands out as a strawberry cake however it tastes like a strawberry nutri grain bar and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing. The carrot cake seems to be the one exception and is delicious.
Moving beyond the cake…The frosting flavors across the board have very little flavor and the same goes for the cake fillings. This makes it difficult to distinguish between flavors. For example, the confetti cake tastes pretty much the same as the lemon (how?!) and the chocolate chip mousse tastes pretty much the same as the German chocolate.
It’s disappointing how NOT delicious or decadent their cake is. Truly a travesty since this place is so beloved by our community and is not at all cheap.
My advice is to only buy the carrot cake from this bakery and steer clear from the other flavors that will leave you wishing for a calorie and...
