The Rookery — Restaurant in Hillsborough

Hello, Owners and fellow guests. This is Madison Gates. I have been a member of the town since the late 90s.

I enjoy bars, and I love beer, as do my friends. The Rookery is just okay. I really wish they hadn't stopped the Karaoke part. The owners are a little disconnected with what the town needs or wants in this building. It has nothing to do with their background; they have a nice restaurant down the street.

You can't decorate a bar like the way it is and have no parking for your business. I am always scared I am going to get towed.

As a person with tons of friends, there is no reason at all not to offer food. At least offer chicken wings, nachos, something.

I always see the burrito restaurant down the street, and sometimes a food truck outside. Maybe do a connection with them.

The drinks are way too expensive; Hillsborough people cannot afford this place, which is why this place is suffering.

It is way too dark for a bar, and if you are going to make it a bar, add pool tables, add TVs with stuff people want to watch, and maybe add country music from modern times, not music that most don't know.

Whoever is running this business, please come to your senses and read this. The last few times I went there were hardly any people there.

One of the few associates there made my experience the best I have ever had. He is the one with the amazing singing voice and who used to do Karaoke and made me a cool, bright orange drink.

I hope the owners realize they need to come to terms if they don't fix this bar, they will lose it, unless that's...

This photo is proof of what my girlfriend was served — a drink in a dirty glass. Absolutely disgusting, unacceptable, and unprofessional. How does a bar even let this happen? As someone who is particularly sensitive about hygiene, this experience was distressing and left us with a very negative impression. A clean glass is a basic expectation, and failing to meet that standard undermines trust in the establishment as a whole. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. There are plenty of other bars down the street that know how to serve a drink properly I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the issue to ensure better quality control in the future. After an incredible dinner at Nomad, we were told about their sister bar just a short stroll away—and we are so glad we went!

The moment we stepped inside, we were blown away by the interior. It has the most beautiful, cozy garden vibe. We were greeted with a warm smile, the service was incredible, and we were lucky enough to catch some amazing live music.

We ended up staying until closing because the atmosphere was just that enjoyable. The drinks were great and truly unique, and the bar chairs were so comfortable!
