On 4/11/15, I went here with part of my family. We ordered a GF peanut butter and jelly with chips, a "prize", and a Capri-Sun, as advertised (was told before before sitting down that they "can make anything gluten-free" and that "everything in here is gluten-free") for my 4-year-old son, which should have cost $6.50. My other son wanted a hot dog on a GF bun, which we were told they had, but upon ordering this, he was told that he can't have a kids meal with a GF bun. Since he also wanted chips, a "prize", and a Capri-Sun, he said that he would just take the hot dog without the bun. Just so you are clear, they have the buns there, but basically REFUSED to give him that bun, even with me willing to pay more for it and still give him the stuff that comes with the kids meal. My wife ordered a GF California Wrap, I had a Chicago style hot dog, and she and I shared a diet Coke. We ordered three single scoops of ice-cream, two of the scoops were on GF cones. So, here is what was ordered in summary:
1 - Peanut butter and jelly on GF bread 1 - mini-Rice Krispie treat 2 - Capri Suns 2 - Reeces Peanut Butter Cups (the "prizes" for the kids meals) 1- hot dog with no bun 1 - bag of Lays potato chips 1 - Chicago hot dog 1 - medium diet Coke 1 - GF California wrap 3 - scoops of ice cream 2 - GF cones
How much should that cost, even being on HHI (mind you, no beach view, it's not fine dining, it's cramped… I literally had to keep moving my chair because it was in the way for people trying to pay at the register)? According to the cafe's menu prices, the total should have been under $42, but somehow we paid $57. Of course after I paid, I walked away, questioned that in my head, and talked with my wife about it, so I went back and asked for an itemized receipt but was told by the lady, who I presume to be the owner, "it's too late."
The one star is for the actual food, which is good, but in the words of my 6-year-old son, this place is "ridiculous" (that's what he whispered when he was told he had to choose between getting a kids meal or a GF hot dog bun). The prices, the service, and the lack of flexibility was simply ridiculous. I've been coming to HHI for over 20-years and have never had an issue like this before with any of the restaurants on the island. Needless to say, we...

Poor service, overpriced, bland food.
*Poor service-When we arrived we were the only customers. We placed our orders and received our drinks. Then a group of approximately 20 people came in for ice cream. From where I was seated I could see our order was completely and sitting under a heat lap for quite some time. I went up to the server and asked if we could receive our food order. I was told they only have 2 employees (1 cook and 1 server) so I had to wait while she served the customers ordering ice creams, even though we were there first AND our hot food was cooked. So I sat back down, and wasn’t served our food, until she was finished scooping up all the customers (approximately 20) ice creams.
Poor service-My teenage son didn’t like the roast beef panini. I told the server he didn’t like the sandwich and asked to order pancakes instead. No accommodations to remove the sandwich, take it off the bill, or apologies were made.
*Overpriced, the sandwiches we ordered were $12.99-17.50. They came with only a sandwich and no sides. Not one sandwich was memorable.
*Bland food, the food is like a poorly run deli. Bland and not memorable.
*No bill was offered at the end. I asked for the bill and was told to go to the cashier area. I was told a final price, but no bill was...
Read moreSo went specifically for a Banana Split having seen on the web that they had them on the menu. Sooo after seating and then indicating we just wanted ice cream she told us to stand and come to the counter which we did not do, so ordering the Banana Split she asked what flavor ice cream and I said a traditional Split she seemed confused and said they were a lunch dinner not an ice cream cafe…she had to check if they had Bananas they did and scooped out the traditional vanilla Chocolate and Strawberry next she topped it of with chocolate syrup asked if we wanted nuts, yes…whip cream oh but they didn’t have any, want a cherry, yes usually comes with one on each scoop she placed one. Proceeded to deliver so I said what about the other toppings…usually comes with 3 she had no other toppings. So at what point could she have said we don’t have the correct ingredients or I don’t know how to make one. Instead she asked why I was being argumentative Because I wanted a traditional Banana Split not a custom take what I have! Won’t be going back for ice cream however the food menu looked good and people eating food...
