My husband and I were in the area tonight picking up a piece of furniture. We asked the guys we bought the furniture from where a good place to eat was. They suggested Blackthorn Pub. We are so glad they did! Parking was a bit difficult. But we finally found a place. We waited about 20 minutes which was good since it was 6:00 pm on a Friday night. My husband had a couple of stouts. He said they were really good. After being seated, we started noticing other tables food! It all looked amazing! We decided to split because we wanted to try as much as possible! We started with the stuffed mushrooms. They were delicious. Then we ordered the beer soup. To be honest, I did not like this at all. My husband ate about half. He said it was bitter. I'm not sure that's what I thought, but it was weird. And texture was a bit gritty. It's ok tho, can't always love everything! Next the side salad. Really nice garden salad with red onion, grape tomatoes, carrots, cucumber, croutons on a spring mix. My husband and I split our dinners a lot. Sometimes, a server will assume we're cheap and be less than thrilled for fear they won't get as big of a tip. Which by the way is never the case....The server tonight was Casey. Casey not only didn't bat an eye at us splitting... She split the salad for us without asking and offered 2 different dressings! I loved her from that moment! Lol Next the fish and chips. Humongous piece of fish! Definitely enough to share. Breading wasn't too thick. Fish was cooked perfect. Fries and slaw were good too. Of course we had to get a dessert! We opted for the bread pudding to go! We were stuffed! Ate it once we got home. It was different. Unlike any bread pudding we've had. Made out of rye bread croutons I think. It was good. I'd try another dessert next time though. So, 5 stars! Food was great and timed out perfectly. Prices were ridiculously reasonable. All of the above food and beer was $50! Our server, Casey was really great. We didn't want for a thing and she showed up exactly when we needed her. If ever in that area again, we will make it a point to stop...
Read moreDecent spot! Above average I'll say. We stopped in for dinner today. Atmosphere: Good vibe! Quite open as is normal for American pubs, good decor, cozy brick, steel, and darker wood finishing. Music playing but not too loud and decent variety of new and old rock and alternative. The service: Alright overall, server was plenty friendly, seemed sort of disinterested and didn't refill our non alcoholic drinks, but perhaps that's because it's a Sunday afternoon. The Guinness: Decent pint! Better than many, spot on flavor, plenty creamy. Ok pour, smooth head only one or two bubbles, no dome to speak of. Some streakage inside from water, or residue, glass wasn't "beer clean". Quite disappointed in the lack of a Guinness glass, new style or old, expected such for an Irish Presenting Pub. Their proprietary glassware is awesome! Just not in this context. Suited well the IPA I tried after. The Food: Food was out fast, 10 minutes for the appetizer, 15-20 for main courses. We got fried pickles, meh, beer cheese was cold, breading was sparse, texture okay, flavor is decent, had better elsewhere. I got the pub burger, spot on! Excellent typical pub style burger and the fries were quite good as well, healthy pile, McDonald's esque. I'll certainly be back for drinks at some point, solid and varied selection of good craft beers on tap, and canned/bottled. I look forward to trying some more of the food. Come...
Read moreReally good first experience at Blackthorn Pub. Food was good, atmosphere was great, and the bartender was super cool. We got the stuffed mushrooms, which were yummy. Didn't find the sausage to be that spicy. Still good though. I got the fish and chips, and it was also really good. It was nice that they used haddock instead of the usual cod. I got a kale Caesar salad with my fish and chips. My boyfriend and I split that, as I didn't expect it to be as big as it was. I will say, I would definitely get the kale Caesar salad as a meal though, as it was really good. I loved the dinosaur kale that was used. It's not tough like traditional kale (for anyone who isn't a fan of kale). My boyfriend got a Pub burger, just so he could see how they are before trying one of the others. He likes his cooked medium rare, and he really enjoyed it. For drinks, I got the Raspberry Coconut Lemonade, and it was sooo incredibly yummy. I took a picture of the cocktails menu so we could get to recreate some of them. All in all a very good first experience. We'll definitely be going back. It will probably be our new regular place to go to. It's about a 25 minute drive from our place, but going a little further for good food is definitely...
