The family and I had a delicious authentic Mexican dinner last night. We started with the guacamole and we agreed that it was the best we’ve had in a long time. We chose to add the spicy green salsa to it to add spice. My wife had the hibiscus tea and really liked it. She’s had their horchata during past visits and liked it, too. The kiddo ordered the chicken quesadilla sans the salad. It was stuffed with chicken and cheese. She said it was very filling. I ordered the small pozole. It lacked a litttle flavor for my liking, but with adding the lime, green hot salsa, lettuce, white onion and cilantro (which are the normal accompaniments with this dish) it was perfect. Full of meat and just enough hominy. My wife ordered the chicken fajitas for all of us to share. The flavor was on point. The tomatoes, onions and green peppers had the perfect amount of char. The chicken was well seasoned. The Mexican rice was perfect! Just like my mother in law’s and grandmother in law’s! My wife ordered a single pork taco. For us, it was not our favorite and a little dry. We should have gotten a carne asada taco. Finally, my wife ordered the caldo de res, beef soup, she loved it. She liked the broth. It was full of flavor from the oregano and bay leaves. As far as service, we had great service last night. There have been times that we went and the service was slow. This is one of those mama & papa’s ( mom & pops lol) located on Johnson Street in Hollywood. We love it here and feel it’s the closest to true Mexican food. In an effort to prevent any comments arguing about true Mexican food, my wife is 100% Mexican from Las Vegas via Los Angeles. We have done A LOT of taste testing here in South Florida. Just a tip- they are putting an automatic 15-18% tip on the checks with their new system. Don’t add a tip on the POS system, rather leave cash if you want to boost it to 20%. Although I think it’s wrong, I’ll still go for the delicious food

Went for lunch on a Saturday, around 1:30. Place had maybe six or seven people inside. Non-descript kind of interior, not overflowing with a bunch of Mexican bric-a-brac. Two dining rooms. Seats around sixty diners. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was delicious and authentic. Don't ask to see my passport with all of my Mexican visa stamps. Trust me. Guac was made with care and simply, adding some diced tomatoes and omitting jalapenos to make it theirs. Chunky and thick. Tortilla chips were a bit thicker and crunchier than a lot of those taco shell-types. One problem: they didn't have any tongue for the sandwich! I switched to the cow head sandwich instead. Outstanding! Full of tender, juicy meat with a bit of char. Also had the beef soup. Wonderful broth, loaded with oregano, cumin, bay leaf and big pieces of flank meat. It needed some jazzing up with the cilantro and onions served as accompaniments. We also had the ranch-style eggs, served with chilaquiles. Perfect, although we had to ask for tortillas, one was delivered. Their margarita tasted okay, although it was made with some kind of tequila-flavored wine. I cherished my Victoria beer, which is not found in many places. Our experience was really good in an unassuming environment, shared with a several real-life Mexican people. Always a good sign.

La Fondita is a delightful experience that exceeds expectations. During my visit, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food at La Fondita. It wasn't just good; it was exceptionally tasty, making the dining experience truly enjoyable. What made it even better was the lack of crowds, allowing for a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, perfect for families and gatherings. Joy With Friends added another layer of enjoyment to the evening. The atmosphere was on point, creating a lively and fun environment that enhanced the overall experience. The music and the talented singer provided a fantastic backdrop, adding to the vibrant ambiance of the place. Overall, I highly recommend La Fondita and Joy With Friends for anyone looking for a great dining experience coupled with entertainment. Whether you're with family or friends, this place offers delicious food, a welcoming atmosphere, and enjoyable entertainment that will leave you wanting to come back for more. It's a perfect choice for a memorable evening out.

I'm 41 and leaving reviews is not my style at all. I'm only here because I couldn't address the issue in person because no one understood English. I stumbled on this place searching online. It looked awesome so I decided to take the family here after I left work. The food was awesome! A couple things were off but food was great. Now the waitress, destroyed the whole experience from the start to finish. I thought maybe she was just having a bad day but something was just wrong the whole time. We had to beg here for every item we needed from water to silverware, which was never on the table from the beginning. She just kept dropping plates off and would walk off with no talking or concern. I MADE IT SUPER CLEAR THIS WAS OUR FIRST TIME HERE and we needed a minute to look at the menu. I tell her we need 2 cups of water and 1 coke, she comes and drops 2 bottled waters off and walks away. She claims that she serves only bottled water to children, but that's a total lie cause gratuity is added to every bill automatically. Brings our food and drops plates off with no silverware. Walks off and brings one napkin with utensils back. Have to ask for 2 more sets of utensils and that's a problem for her. Everything we asked her about was just NO, never an offer to find something else on menu. She never came by our table once after food was served and I had to go to the register to pay my bill.

She was a heavy set dark skinned Dominican waitress with a piercing on her lip or cheek and had a face like she just swallowed 2 raw lemons. Just a Nasty person!

In times like these every business is hurting and employees like this can crush a small business. I love eating good food and tipping good people! I never leave under 20%.

Just based on this lady's attitude alone I will never go back. Which is a shame because the food was great.

15% was added to the Bill for gratuity, and that's exactly what she received.

Normally I would have gave an additional 10% to anyone serving my family, but she deserved 0 honestly, because she ruined the moment.

GREAT FOOD

NASTY SERVICE.

ALSO A FLY TRAP IS SITTING RIGHT BEHIND YOU AT THE FIRST TABLE IN THE RESTAURANT....

ZAP ZAP EVERYTIME A FLY GETS FRIED!

So I rage about this place. The tall, thick, beautiful, long brown haired waitress has never done me wrong....WTF happened? I got served by a small blondish haired lady with braces that tried to swindle my hubby and I. Now, the food quality was awesome as always, but the lady who served us was so racial profiling us it was ridiculous. Ok so tell me if I'm exaggerating. 1st of all they always gv us complimentary chips and homemade salsa. This time she asked if we wanted chips and she brought over guacamole dip and some hard chips that were 7.99? I was like, "Did u ask for this?" To my husband, and he was like, "NO!" We took the 8 dollar dip thinking she was new, to cut her a break. 2nd we were served big beer glasses for every drink we ordered, even the regular shakes and fountain drinks. We thought the waitress was high! Are u serious, serving beer jugs for a milk shake and a fountain drink? They were 4.50 each on the bill. 3rd and final straw with this waitress, was when we had asked for water. She brought over bottled water instead of fountain water, which we get on the regular when we've dined with the other waitress. WTF! My hubby even asked does she think I want to pour 200 dollars for a simple mex dinner? When we asked for regular fountain water, it was all attitude. Did not appreciate this waitress. And believe it or not, customer service is the key to a great dining experience. When we finally got the check, it was 100 dollars for 5 people, that's including a 9 yr old kid. I'm Honduran and I feel the lady did that waitress hustle, in profiling gringos with wallets. Not impressed and she should really practice communicating the quantity and size she is planning to bring. I am warning my American Looking friends to please not be waited on by "Alex", if that really is her name. She is slightly blonde, braces or some kind of invisa-line braces, short with pink lipstick. The tall long haired ponytail lady s much better. I don't remember her name but she...
