My daughter dad spent 130.00 on a minnie mouse cake and it was horrible I repeat horrible.the cake had no taste I was upset and told him to take it back. he didn't want to I told him when he first order the cake it was overpriced and he should have tasted the cake way before the party which was yesterday Saturday, 10/10/20. or at least a sample of the cake they will be using he didn't he said he asked for a yellow cake it was not yellow it was white instead. I was not there when he placed the order so I have to take his word and give him the benefit of the doubt. I can admit the cake had absolutely no taste to it they tried to make the icing sweet to cover it up. I'm not a big icing fan so I cut me a huge slice because I love cakes, and I just knew this was going to be good when I begin to eat a piece immediately it was semi-sweet the icing the cake itself had no taste to it was more like this cake was prebaked and frozen and just allowed it to thaw out and someone just decorated over it. quite expensive for a cake that absolutely not one child or adult liked.everyone told him this was bad business and he should take It back and get some of his money back since the cake had been indeed cut. he was upset and more embarrassed because everyone keep saying you didn't taste the cake have you ever been there before?he said no someone from publix bakery on the Eastside of bham referred him I traditional as a child and my kids, always order publix cakes never not once failed me even though they don't actually make the cakes themselves anymore.it still tasted great but whats really sad is I am black and we tried to support a "black owned business"and let's say an epic fail.I will be sticking to what I know and thats publix, we don't want our money back just know we will never support this business again. We didn't mind spending the 130.00 because it was for a 2 year old. many parent like myself will go above and beyond for our kids, when it comes to bday's. but we never spend that much on a cake for a child ever but again we did it for our daughter, because it was all about her so we went to the publix were we originally were going to order her cake down the street on Montclair and brought a ice cream cake and cupcakes to make up so we spend more money buying another cake but everyone liked it for a 75% price different... here is the back end of the story we wanted something a little bit different publix could not make the cake they said due to copyright because my daughter father had this big imagine how he wanted her cake to be made and publix bakery told us they could not do it because of copyright reason so this is how we ended up...
Read moreI understand this place has a long time tradition in the area and I'm hoping the owners see this review to make necessary changes to keep this place in business for many more years. We stopped in for a sweet treat after dinner... ordered a few cookies, cupcakes, & cake slices for the family. Had a very hard time ordering with the woman behind the counter, it was like we weren't speaking the same language which we did, english... not sure what happened when we ordered things like "1 strawberry cake slice & 2 chocolate cupcakes"... Also, when she handed us the ticket to take to register, it was not legible so we couldn't understand what she wrote down for our order. While we were paying at register, she had marked an extra cake slice and we were charged for 2 of them instead of 1. We didn't say anything about it though & paid for it thinking we would just take that slice home. While we were paying, we didn't see them packing up our goodies. We had to wait for 7 minutes for two of the cake slices when they weren't busy. One of the ladies behind the counter asked us 3 different times if we were waiting to order. All of the times we said we had already ordered & paid and were just waiting for our goodies. Like I said, they weren't busy & we were waiting in the same spot the whole time, right where she had told us to wait. While we were waiting, customers were trickling in for order pickups & leaving and just about every order had an issue... they couldn't find one customers cookie order, one was undercharged for cookie pickup and the CUSTOMER was the one who caught it and was trying to make it right which confused the people working behind the counter. They tried to bring her more cookies! She had to explain about 5 times that she had the right amount of cookies but that she hadn't been charged correctly. Another order was wrong & they didn't get the right items. By now, we just wanted our stuff & wanted to leave. Finally we got our goodies brought to us and we left. When we opened the bags & boxes, we found that we received some wrong cookies & wrong cupcakes, not what we ordered. We were so fed up at this point, we just left. Not sure what was going on there today but obviously it was not a good day for them. Side note, the cake was extremely dry, and crumbly and was in a heap in the box. The preserves/strawberries in the strawberry cake tasted spoiled. Cupcakes were dry as well. Sadly very disappointed as I love supporting local businesses but I won't...
Read moreMy mother ordered a quarter sheet for my bridal shower this weekend. She ordered a white cake with a few succulents and a monogram. When going to pick up the cake she found herself running close to the store's closing, so she called the store to let them know at around 3:50, and her calls were ignored despite the store being open. Arrives at exactly 4:00 and every employee stares her in the face and refuse to let her in or help her, after ignoring her calls attempting to prevent this BEFORE the store closed. Not off to a great start. Then we finally get the cake to discover it looks nothing like what was requested. Not a single drop of white, kind of looks like a halloween party threw up on it. I am a cake decorator and I am 100% confident the decorator did not feel like changing their halloween and fall colored icing bags to appropriate colors. Covered in dark oranges, grays, a purple so dark it is almost black. To be honest it looks like it was a different cake order that got scraped (badly) and repurposed, as there is for some reason pink smeared on the sides. It is very elaborately decorated and I appreciate the time that I know was put into it but it is simply not what we asked for AT ALL. It is pretty much the exact opposite of what we asked for and the only thing correct about it was the cake on the inside. We still ended up eating the cake and things worked out okay for us, but this is not at all acceptable service. As cake decorators it is our job to give a customer what they order, not whatever you feel like doing (or whatever you DON'T feel like doing, in this case) instead. Extremely disappointing after already experiencing the employees treat my mother as an inconvenience. I have been wanting to try Savages cakes for a long time being in this trade myself and having heard great things- unfortunately I saw none of them. Would not recommend to ANYONE, unless they feel like putting themselves at the complete liberty of rude employees and...
