I stumbled upon this joint while waiting for a ride from the airport. It was wonderful! When I entered, there were a few people waiting for to go orders, so I thought I was in for a long wait, but I was pleasantly surprised to get a table instantly even on a busy Friday night. The outside is a generic but clean strip mall in the shadow of the airport with secure parking. (They validate) Stepping inside, I was transported to a little beach town! The decor is perfect for a casual Hawaiian pizza joint! The smell of the garlic cheese balls filled the air and made me order a batch. The setup is simple, order from the pleasant hostess, have a seat, your pizza and garlic creation are delivered steaming hot as they are ready. My ride was delayed, so I people watched for a while. There was a nice mix of visitors as well as clear regulars. The older Uncle, I'm assume was the owner, or an excellent manager, was working the whole time, greeting every table, clearing and cleaning them quickly when they were vacated, he personally checked on every pizza that came out while I was there. I saw him give a discount to a big group and a free dessert to a regular when they made a small topping mistake on her pizza which she repeatedly said was no big deal, but he made it right, before she even had a chance to notice the mixup. The other staff seemed to be young and just as friendly and energetic, in a very hospitable way. I never felt rushed. In fact, my ride ended up being long delayed, and Uncle invited me to stay and read my book in safety and Hostess plug in my phone battery to charge. Oh yeah, and the pizza was delicious! I had a Texan brisket BBQ, I was skeptical that it'd be real brisket, but it was and it was tender and lean. The BBQ was bold enough but not too bold and there was a perfect amount. At first, I thought the total was a little high for a personal size pizza, soda, and a few garlic rolls, but the food was handmade quality, hearty, hot, and filling. Pizza, sandwich and subs, and the limits of the menu, but the variety of each is endless. Every time I fly in, I'll be stopping by to pick up a pizza, a perfect...
Read moreWe’ve eaten in several times and gotten take out a bunch. We really enjoy their pizzas! We have an amazing pizza place closer to us (Uncle’s in Wahiawa) but sometimes we are down this way or want to change things up. Price is reasonable here and wait is typically the time noted. Service depends on who it is. There was one guy super friendly and kind but the girl up front wasn’t friendly even when I tried to ask how she was doing. I understand we all have bad days but I literally just found out my mom has stage 4 cancer and exhibited a courteous hello to her. Even the smallest kindness makes a difference. No aloha spirit. Then there were a bunch of pizza boxes sitting on the edge of the counter by our table and we had been waiting forever to ask for a to go box, so eventually we just helped ourselves and boxed up our pizza because we needed to pick up our daughter. At that moment she either said we weren’t allowed to take those or we’re not allowed to hand those out.. either way, her tone was a bit short. Just leaving this review to say it’s okay to have a hard day, but remember the customers may also be having a hard time just holding it together to eat a pizza. No hard feelings. Just some feedback. With love…...
Read moreBig thank you to Big Kahuna's! Twice a year, we fly our entire team from the outer islands to partake in a company meeting over the course of 2 days. Anyone who has to coordinate lunch for a large group (20+) of people can relate to the challenge of appeasing everyone, not inculding keeping to a tight budget! Big Kahuna's fits that bill and is the only place that keeps everyone happy. While pizza is their namesake, their sandwiches are super popular with our group. It never fails during lunch to hear multiple comments made regarding how fresh their bread is. Today, while I waited for my order, I chatted with an employee and confirmed that their dough is made fresh (techinally everything they make/have is fresh) and batched baked. Because of this, it does take time to prepare and cook. Sure, they could get a bigger kitchen, state-of-the-art equipment and a larger team... but that's a greater cost to the business, and prices would have increase to offset that expense. Save time and consider ordering ahead through their website. Because our orders are large, we order upwards to a week before and all our food is hot and ready the day of. This place being a locally owned business, is just...
