Fresh Catch is a good place to get seafood. They seem to be best known for selling poke, but in my opinion this isn’t the place to go if that’s what you’re craving. In general, their marinades are much sweeter than what you’d find at other poke places on island, and consequently the spicy marinades aren’t spicy at all. Plus, their price per pound is much higher than average. The freshness and quality of the fish itself is pretty good though.
Their plate lunches is where they shine. Their ahi katsu is great—flavorful, not dried out like you’d commonly find at other restaurants, and you get a ton of it for the price. Their seared ahi is also nice since the raw part of the fish is good quality as mentioned before, but you don’t get as much food as the ahi katsu and the crust is a bit too salty. Their ahi belly gives a pretty good amount of food for the price but, again, the garlic butter sauce they use is pretty salty and tends to dominate the flavor of the dish.
As for their new location, it’s much less convenient to get to than their old Waialae spot. Parking is pretty tight and exiting their lot is kind of sketchy.
Overall, good place to get seafood-based plate lunches, but there are better places to get poke. They tend to be heavy handed with certain seasonings (mostly salt and sugar), so be...
Read moreThey don’t have table inside the restaurant, we can only do take out. So ate in the car, but couldn’t finish the meal because it doesn’t taste that good. So we went to the store ask for a bag to put the trash inside. The staff ignored us at first, then finally talked to us. I told him I need a bag. He said I need to go to the window to ask staff there. ( but as far as I saw, only 2 staff working). So we walked outside the store and waited outside the window. Another worker saw us through the window, she slammed the window in a very rude way. We had to knock the window to ask for service. Then the same staff ( whom told us to wait outside the window) opened the window and asked what we need. We said the same thing “ can we get a bag”. He said it will be 30 cent. I asked “ why didn’t you tell me inside the store”. Then he acted rude/ impatient way say “ you know what, here you go”. Then handed us a plastic bag. We said “ thank you”. He slammed window on us for no reason. Even we are pulling out from the parking and leaving the parking lot, the staff still staring at us. My experience there was really unpleasant and I got attitude from The staff out of no where. Very disappointed because this restaurant has high rating, but turned out the food taste is over rated and the...
Read moreIt really hurts to write this review because I don’t ever want to give a place such a poor rating. I’m hoping it’s just a one-off.
We’ve been wanting to try this location of Fresh Catch. Everything looked ono. Mary said her favorites were x, y, and z so we ordered the ahi belly, garlic salmon, and ahi belly lechon. Also added kimchee tako.
The kimchee tako was ono! The garlic salmon was perfectly cooked. The ahi belly was cooked ok, not over, not under, but almost over cooked and the white sauce was so bland. But the rice. The rice! All of rice was not cooked. Not even undercooked. Just not cooked. See photos. You can see solid bits of rice. The rice for all ordered was inedible. We paid over $70 and couldn’t even eat the rice?
Additionally, I’m so sorry, but the auntie working cashier was so sick. She shouldn’t have been working. She was coughing into her hands, touching the poke spoons, the pen she gave me to sign, the utensils…it was just…unacceptable.
I’m just so sad by the quality of our food and the price we paid for it…and for old auntie who couldn’t stay home on a day when she should’ve been...
