Updated Review December 2022
Disappointed
We likely made our last visit to this restaurant which we absolutely loved a year ago.
After the past couple of visits sadly it has started to go downhill in both service and quality. I have adjusted my review rating to a three star as a result.
Tonight’s service was especially poor. Our waiter was pleasant but could not offer any recommendations. He had this terrible habit of when asking if we need something to say “you don’t want dessert so you?” or “you don’t need anything from the bar do you?”. Service also took a long time and not one manager came over to ask how we were doing. It’s disappointing because in the past we experienced the polar opposite with great service.
Anyway we ordered a charcuterie board and the fruit was excellent but they clearly have cut back on the quality of cheese as it looked like your basic cubed cheddar and pepper Jack.
I ordered meatloaf which was cooked well but the Lima bean mash was dry and that wasn’t what I asked for by the way. I had asked for standard mash but the waiter or kitchen messed up. The finishing greens placed on top still had their roots attached which isn’t how a professional chef should run their kitchen. Just no attention to detail here.
My wife ordered a chicken dish which was underwhelming as well. It was also served with dry (regular) mashed potato and was lacking seasoning.
For dessert we tried the apple crisp and it was watery and tasteless.
Disappointed and won’t be going back to this restaurant. There are so many good food options in Hoover and Birmingham. This is no longer one is them.
My original: Review from 2021: Highly recommended! The food is excellent and the staff was attentive throughout the meal. I would also recommend the custom cocktails as the bartenders take special care in preparing them. Ask about the specials, lot of good stuff not on the...
Read moreMy daughter and I visited this location Saturday for brunch, the atmosphere was nice, and the live band. The food was ok. Kayla was our server. I ordered the steak and eggs, with a side of bacon, and my daughter had the chicken and waffles. Our mimosas were on point. My steak and eggs were ok, I added mushrooms, too. The bacon was crispy and delicious. Unfortunately, they didn't have steak sauce, so I had to settle for worcestershire sauce 😒🙄 so that was a ding for me. My daughter stated that the chicken was good. She didn't care for the waffle. It tasted ok to me, a lot of different flavors you could taste in the waffle, then the maple syrup, I guess, was a bit much for her. But no butter was provided either, very dry. We enjoyed our meal. Kayla was great until the check came. In reviewing my check, the total was more than the charges and didn't match. So when I asked her about it, and advised it didn't add up and what was the additional charges for, through her smile and snappiness in her voice she replies she doesn't know maybe it its for the the extra mushrooms, she dont make the rules, and she can just take it off. You could see and hear the irritation behind her smile and voice. I have no problem paying it, I ordered it, just put it on the damn check, and why have an attitude. I gave her my card, and I watched her go to the computer, for as hard as she was punching the buttons on that computer, im surprised it dont have holes in it, you could tell she was mad at me for asking. 🤨 I paid and left. I have a function coming up at this location soon, so I'm really contemplating even...
Read moreThe service was exceptional and the atmosphere was very comfortable and inviting, and that is why we will definitely return. This was my first time visiting, so I've only had the burger to date. My friend had been before and had a chicken salad, which she said was mediocre but I can only attest to the burger. At $15+ it was ok at best - the main reason we ordered it was because of the parmesan fries, which we were all craving: We ordered the burgers at med-well and the temperature was perfect on all. The meat patty was just right in size, not too thin, not too thick but it could have used some seasoning (like blackened or something besides salt). The toppings would be better if there was something crispy added, like a fresh tomato or crispy bacon or crispy pickles instead of the floppy ones. Lettuce was lackluster. -/+ While I did like the sauted onion, I would have preferred raw - the burger was missing some freshness and crunch to it. The parmesan fries were the most disappointing part. They might as well have been listed as shoestring fries on the menu - very disappointing when you are expecting some seasoned carbs. There was very little parmesan about them - so little the waiter had to point out just where the parmesan part was. In reality, the were just regular, unseasoned shoestring fries with a tiny bit of shredded parm sprinkled on them. Bottom line: Overall, very enjoyable evening. The service made up for any food deficiencies and while it could have been better for the price, it was still a decent meal. We will return but try...
