There is just something about Redland’s Grill (J. Alexander’s) that draws us in year after year for superior Hoover dining. This time, we enjoyed the exemplary service of Henry Scott, which absolutely capped our celebratory evening off with good cheer and warmth! This restaurant is one of the only places in Hoover, Alabama that serves Veuve Clicquot BY THE GLASS and offers probably one of the finest wine lists in the area. We went with the smoked salmon dip, followed by steak Maui, and were not disappointed. Everything was paced and served perfectly, the beverages, wine service, our appetizer, main course and of course, the very best chocolate cake finale. Redlands Grill was led that evening by GM Lee—who was the master of the expo window while I observed. Diners what this means is that a marvelous team effort is taking place so that your meal is delivered as soon as it is ready, still steaming from the open Chef’s kitchen that always puts on a dazzling display of finesse. So, for Hoover diners who want a combination of outstanding professional service (ask for Henry Scott), combined with a menu of outstanding menu options for all palates, then for Hoover, Alabama dining you’ll want to enjoy Redlands Grill, hands down.

Let me start with saying that Michele is the reason my husband and I enjoy sitting at the bar when we eat here. The drinks she mixes are fabulous, especially a cosmopolitan which is my favorite. We met Johnathan and Joey last night, and the three "play" well together. My husband and I rarely stray from our favorite appetizer & meal. The grilled artichokes are amazing, and we share a Steak Maui (big portions make this the best way to enjoy it. The only disappointment was with the steak this time. It usually comes as a ribeye, but last night it was a sirloin. It was thicker & tasty but not as flavorful as it's been in the past. All in all it was a great experience due to the atmosphere, the awesome bartending staff (especially Michele). The food was good, but we are spoiled but have always received great food in the past, so the steak was a little bit of a downer. We still love your restaurant and recommend it highly. Check it out, get a drink at the bar, and tell Michele I said hello 😉!

Absolutely terrible filet mignon. My pictures don’t show how ridiculously hard it is. Looked good at first until my knife couldn’t cut all the way through. Was is the knife? Doubt it. When I finally did manage to get a piece off, I tried to take a bite and couldn’t. Super tough and all gristle. So disgusting. 1 star because Google doesn’t allow zero and I’ll say the star is for how my finger tasted after attempting to try the steak. Or I guess the star could be for the generous size of the, unfortunately inedible, chunk of meat. Oh also - called at 5 to confirm they had salmon dip. Hostess put me on hold and came back and confirmed they did have it. My husband went in less than 5 minutes later to order and guess what - no salmon dip. Also out of another app at 5pm on Friday. Perhaps everyone else knows the only edible things on their menu are the starters.

On Feb 22nd there was a group of 19 of us, dressed in our nice pink and red attire for our girls Galantine Dinner. We made 3 separate reservations to be able to accommodate the entire party. Once we arrived, we found that our 3 table that would only be needed for 3-4 ladies was not available. Was told that we would have to be placed on the wait list even after the manager admitted that the staff that made the two found reservations failed to make the third one. We were asked to wait 50 mins to be seated! They proceeded to seat 14 others in our party but left us in the lobby. There were two additional booths adjacent to each of the tables the others were seated at, and we were told those were already reserved for a party that wasn’t due to show up for another hour and a half! Spoke with 2 managers explaining that the way they handled the situation wasn’t accommodating at all and that the same grace being asked from me ask that grace of those coming behind us considering your staff screwed up the reservation. I stood there and watched them seat people that came in after my party even a family of 4 with no reservations! We explained that if we all couldn’t be seated and waited on at the same time that our entire party would leave. After I expressed that this appeared to be a racist things the male manager asked me to leave before he called the police on me as if I’m wanted! Every person in my party is WELL EDUCATED but to witness a family of four be seated that was Caucasian without a reservation and we were just sitting there more than the 50mins they asked of us, what else is one to think or feel? I’ve visited there uncountable times just for GP, but to be treated as nothing like I didn’t matter and the managers lacked accountability for the employee actions and dropped ball on the reservation, I wouldn’t recommend anyone to eat there every again! Especially if you have a large party! And that is the very short version as to what happened on...

Let me start by saying I love food, a great ambiance, and great service. This place was NOT any of the above. I ordered a steak that came with mashed potatoes. The steak was supposed to be medium. The top was completely charred and I actually was pulling black crunchy pieces out of my mouth after trying it. It tasted burnt and the center was anything but medium. Tons of gristle and fat too. The mashed potatoes tasted like cleaning solution or something soapy. Definitely not like potatoes.

I’m not one to complain normally. The waitress noticed I didn’t eat my food and that I had pushed the food to the side of the table. She asked if I’d like a different steak, which I said no. For me, I could only imagine it would be like the first, so why take another one? Then I was offered a carrot cake instead of steak. I don’t eat sweets so I said no to that as well.

I went to use the restroom and almost slipped on the urine in there. It looked like somebody peed all over the floor. Even when trying one of the stalls and there was pee and toilet paper all over the floor.

Worst of all I still paid the $46 for my steak. Even after the manager came to apologize. They never took it off the bill.

So I’ll say this in closing. I would highly recommend NOT going here if you would like to have even a decent meal. I was taking my Mom here and was embarrassed by my decision. I wanted to take her out for her pre-birthday occasion and was incredibly disappointed. I can’t imagine how this place stays in operation honestly. I also am afraid of what I actually ingested here. Not to mention I was sick the next three days after eating here.

I would AVOID this place if you are looking for a great dining experience...

On February 22, 2025, my group had reservations (3 different reservations for a party of 7 and under). Our reservations were planned at the start of January. A couple of days before, only one of us received a follow-up call, so I called back to confirm reservations for the others , and I was told that the reservations were still on as planned. With no need to be in an uproar, a total of 19 women arrived at the restaurant 30 mins early. Once we made it, we were told that 1 of the reservations was not on the schedule. The 5 young ladies plus the manager had no care or decided not to hold themselves accountable for messing up a reservation that was placed in advance. Our arrival was at 5 pm, one of the reservations was set for 5:30, the other for 6:30 and then the last at 7pm. I know the times were weird, but that's what we were given. The young lady who booked our time slots told us that if we were to make it early, they would accommodate us as a group. THAT WAS NOT WHAT OCCURRED. Not only did we get humiliated by the hostess staff, but the manager kept waking away without a care in the world. When asked if he could see who took our call, we were told yes, but again, management disregarded the entire process. They were able to seat a total of 16 of us but told us the remaining would have to wait, so since J.Alexander could not accommodate us all, they didn't get the opportunity to wait on any of us. It's so much more that happened in a matter of 30 minutes to 1 hour that it is just ridiculous. You have lost 19...
