Jake's Soulfood Cafe Hoover — Restaurant in Hoover

I ordered from Waitr to Jakes Soul food. I used the promo code that was provided for me on my email and the delivery fee of $4.99 was taken off. (Delivey was FREE) But you still have the taxes, fees and the Drivers Tip will which they calculates by a Percentage of my meal price.

I ordered the Jerk chicken meal which came with 2 sides, 1 mini loaf cornbread. I picked collard greens and macaroni and cheese for my sides. I then ordered two more sides which were sweet potato casserole and 😱😱😱 OMG WAS It Good! Very, Very, Very Good. It also had pecans in it and they were fresh and good. This casserole wasn’t too sweet, and it had the right blend of spices and yams. Yes, homemade. I ate it very slow as I could, and save some for the next day. Yes, it’s just that delicious and you need to make sure you GET SOME!

Next, I order the Caribbean Rice and Beans and it was good too along with my mini loaf cornbread. However, as you can see from my pictures the sides that came with my meal was in a container and it’s not full either, and the ones I paid extra for was on my plate. I didn’t like this at all. I called in to explain that my order online for extra sides were mixed up.

She was very courteous, and listened to my dilemma and patient. I told her, I was very disappointed. But, I understood that mistakes can happen in the kitchen at times. But, I still wanted them to know. I wasn’t going to pay for a another meal or go myself to pick up another one even though she didn’t ask me if I wanted a credit or how could she fix it.

However, the sweet potato casserole cost way more than any of the sides . Also, I couldn’t tell if the amount I was supposed to receive was right since it was in a section in my to go container plate and not in a plastic container with lid.

My Jerk chicken which I was craving for was drumsticks they were large as you can see from the picture. However, I don’t like legs. I like the Breast, thighs and small drumsticks. I was very surprised when I opened my plate because it looked nothing like Jerk Chicken. Where’s the sauce that covers the chicken. I mean when I was in Jamaican the Jerk Chicken there was different, traditional and soooooo good! I miss the puddin bread and the roasted corn on the pit.

😱😱😱 OMG! Just thinking about it is making me hungry. However, don’t get me wrong the Jerk chicken dinner was delicious. It was spicy, fresh, now the rice was a little over cooked and sticky but not gummy. I was given 1 plantain. My plantain was good also.

Let me make it plain all my food was good except for some minor issues. I know next time when I ordered online to put thighs and breast for my chicken selection. But Jakes Jerk Chicken Meal I would recommend it. But, remember your in America not Jamaica. But it is good and that’s why I give 4 stars 🤩🤩! Try it out for yourself. See my pictures! Tasty! Ummmh! OVERPRICED! Second visit. UNFORTUNATELY, they didn't allow a purchase of just the chicken wings by themselves. They charge around $26 for 3 wings and two sides with a mini cornbread. NOT WORTH IT. The sides aren't that big and since when does rice and beans cost so much?! I can't believe they'd rather lose customers than sell their wings by themselves. Not everybody eats rice and peas. The people in this area are used to paying these high prices because it's the only Jamaican food that's half decent in this area. This is highway robbery and they will NOT cheat us again. Period. PREVIOUSLY, ON FIRST VISIT** Helpful cashier..assisted with menu. They actually insist that you check your food b4 u leave to make sure it's right. The oxtail had the right amount of seasoning and SPICE;) NOT TOO HOT, OVERPRICED like most items on the menu. I suppose everyone around here doesn't realize the amount of food Jamaicans normally serve in the south.. It's way more food for less and the quality is exceptional. This isn't with the price. WE'RE from Florida and we're used to 5 StarJamaican cuisine. This is half decent you'll find in this area!:) The best part of our meal was the cornbread! May we suggest adding some blueberries? Even if you don't, the cornbread was really outstanding:) THAT'S ALSO overpriced . Fresh market is just as good and you get 6 cupcake sized for about $6!! The Curry Chicken was sweet. Not much heat, but tasty. Still think the oxtail had more flavor and was a rating of 7 out of 10. They missed the spinners and butter beans, maybe next time!:) Chicken was tender and the wings were 5 stars because they were crispy, seasoned well once we were home and reheated on the first visit. WAY TOO PRICEY$ :(...

My daughter ate here on Sunday. She ordered a meal for herself and a to-go meal and paid for both. When she was ready to leave, the server said they could not give her the to-go meal because they had none of the entree left and explained that a credit would take several days before she received a refund. After speaking with the manager, the server offered instead two meals at no additional charge that would be available during the week. At that point, Jake's had both their food and my daughter's money. Her name and phone number were taken and she was told a note with the information would be left in the office. We returned to Jake's today with the receipt and spoke with the manager. He without question accepted my daughter's agreeing to one meal but said he could not honor the two-meal offer because there was no note in the office and he did not know which of their managers was on duty on Sunday. He made no attempt to find out who was on duty and did not contact the server whose name was on the receipt. He spoke with a server and then disappeared. Jake's did not owe my daughter a second meal but offered a free meal due to inconveniencing her as a customer. Once offered and agreed to, it became a commitment which the manager today did not fulfill. He did not even offer a glass of water while we waited today. If your receipt at Jake's is incorrect, beware of an offer for something free instead of a refund! You may not get what...
