Went to Aunt Chubby's for breakfast this morning with high expectations. The place was packed, but I did not mind waiting.Sat at the counter by myself and ordered the eggs Benedict and coffee. Thirty minutes later, no food. Asked the waitress and she said it was very busy. I could see that and settled down with the NYTimes crossword. Groups of three, four and five staff were right in front of me talking out loud and trying to make sense of the orders stacking up on the pass through. Fifteen minutes later I inquired about my breakfast and the server said it would be out soon. I waited. Ten minutes later I politely asked again and was told my order was "on its way." I finished the crossword. Ten minutes later I asked and was told my order had been "misplaced" and was just being prepared. Some other unidentified person came to speak with me, asked what had happened and apologized after I told her. I could accept busyness as an explanation, but clearly the server never asked about my order before telling me it was on its way or she would have known it had been lost. I was lied to. Some kind of crumb cake was placed in front of me with no explanation, but why would I want a pastry if my order was coming out soon? The unidentified person offered my meal for free, but since I had no meal, what could I have been charged for? I was also offered a free meal for another time. Why would I come back? Was another time a half hour later when my order ticket had been found and my meal delivered? I put $10 on the counter for my two cups of coffee and the unwanted crumb cake and left. I can tolerate a busy and slow kitchen. I cannot tolerate having my time...
Read moreHopewell is so cute and this restaurant is tucked into a lovely neighborhood. Definitely get there early on the weekends! The inside is charming and quaint. Within 3 minutes, at least 5 people had said hello to us! Great customer service. Our server Olivia gave great recommendations. She even let me try the ranchero sauce for the breakfast burrito. It wasn’t to my taste so I went for savory pancakes. Really yummy! Yes, slight corn taste but I liked it! Note the maple syrup is about an ounce if you pay extra for it. A side note: I thought the prices were fair. You can tell this place has quality food and drinks. They use the best products, so I didn’t mind the prices. My Mom couldn’t help herself and got the dark chocolate milkshake. I believe they use gelato for the milkshakes…incredible! French toast is only for the weekends and it’s worth the wait. Creamy with berries, it’s a sweet treat. Before you leave, don’t miss the pastries!! The polenta cake is moist and reminds me of traveling through the South. The lemon blueberry cake…heavenly!!! Olivia also recommended the almond croissant and that was delicious too. I was so impressed with the teamwork and how many server assistants and bussers there were working together. Every single worker we encountered was cordial and some even went above and beyond. Best of all, this morning really made my Mom smile and that’s what made it so special to me. We will definitely be back and bringing the whole fam! Thank you for a wonderful morning...
Read moreWe had breakfast at Chubby's yesterday. I really, really hate to write bad reviews, but I consider it a public service to do so. The good: Service was prompt and efficient. The pancakes were very tasty, with an ample portions size. The bad: The $2 extra charge for "real," in this case what appeared to be grade B maple syrup, was ridiculous, as were many of the additional add-on charges. Nickel and dime charges that should have been included as a standard "given" with many of menu items. In fact, this was one of the most expensive breakfasts that I've ever had - $37.92 + tip for two people. I ordered a basic Chubby's breakfast. Very skimpy portions. My scrambled egg"s", and I use the plural loosely, were maybe 1 1/2 eggs. My toast was lukewarm at best, tending towards cold. My hashbrowns were obviously deep fried, not flipped on a grill, and there were very few of them. I mean, we're talkinig maybe 7-8 chunks of potato. The tables are close together, so be prepared to talk loudly, and share your private conversation with other diners. I get it, you have to squeeze the tables in a bit to make money, but this seemed a bit overzealous on the owner's part. All in all, as veterans of many, many breakfast dining experiences, we were not impressed. The coffee was very good, however, and the pastries looked scrumptious, although we did not partake. There, I left it on...
