First of all, it was very hard to find the restaurant as theres no sign indicating where the restaurant is so you have to kind of just guess. My biggest problem with this place isn’t the fact that both my husband and I had a hair in our food, it was the awful service we experienced. There were three women working behind the bar, but only one of them seemed to be taking orders and doing any work at all. I noticed there was a blonde lady that was sitting at the bar with a laptop, and she eventually came behind the bar and was talking to Who I assume the bartender was about ordering more liquor so I think the lady with the blonde hair is the manager or owner or something. It was just strange because the place started to get busy and people were waiting a very long time just to receive menus. My husband and I walked in and there were only two people sitting at the bar by themselves, we did not know where to sit or how to get menus and it took what seemed like 3 to 4 minutes, just to get a menu from one of the ladies working. I felt like they were doing everything but serving their guests. I noticed that several of the other guest who arrived after us were frustrated by the lack of service as well. For some reason, only one of the bartender/servers was going to the tables while there was one who seemed to be doing nothing at all, except standing there, looking confused while the other one talked to the manager of the entire time. We arrived around noon on a Monday so it was definitely lunch, rush hour, but the staff acted as though they were shocked that people were even coming in, like they were not prepared to be open. There were tons of flies, flying around us the entire time as well, which is pretty nasty. The food took at least 20-25 minutes to come out, and my husband ordered a cheeseburger while I only ordered a baked potato. Again, my husband and I both had a hair in our food. I alerted the bartender that I had a hair in my mouth from the potato and she said she would discount our food which did not happen. I just couldn’t believe the casual manner that the bartender had when I literally pulled a hair out of my mouth in front of her. Once again, no customer service skills! As far as the food goes, my husband was happy with his cheeseburger however, his lettuce was super wilted and looked old. My baked potato was fine, but it was very small and the amount of meat that came on it was almost insulting. It was like a pinch of meat. It is also worth mentioning, I think that I ordered one cocktail, a Long Island ice tea that was basically lemon juice and liquor. It was so incredibly sour. I wanted to send it back and get something else but of course I could never get anyone’s attention that worked there to get any service so I just drink it anyway. My husband is a big fan of the film Texas chainsaw massacre, which is why we went to the restaurant. I wanted to mention that the restaurant portion was closed and the attraction portion of the house was very limited. I attached photos of basically the entire attraction portion of the property. If you are planning on driving from Ohio to visit this place, you probably want to reconsider. Basically, a tour of the entire house takes two minutes. Luckily my husband and I were already in the area, which is why we checked it out, but if I had driven a long distance just to go there, I would be very, very upset. All in all the Service needs serious help with basic customer service skills. Also, you may want to be aware as a potential guest that they only serve breakfast Wednesday through Sunday which they do not indicate or tell you on the menu… we had to find out from one of the servers 10 minutes after we had already decided we...
Read moreDefinitely built as a touristy type movie -decorated restaurant inside a lovely old farm house with the Antler Inn next door and Junction Prime and IDK Backyard Grill, and Kingsland Coffee. Not sure if all these are owned by the same but it is a venue for sure. Now to Hoopers restaurant. Named after Tobe Hooper director of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, there are a variety of rooms. First service is VERY SLOW.
So come with lots of patience in mind and best not to have any fixed schedule. Restaurant is clean and well furnished. They have an expansive menu. The regular coffee is very nice. The latte is very good once you get it. Takes a while and you might have to ask about it to remind them. They have a bar area where they also serve food. Nice, but kinda "echoy" so opt for an individual table if available. Picture your grandma's house with every room for dining + Chainsaw pics. It is interesting to see.
Now to the food, Hubby got the country Benedict served with cheese grits. He said "very tasty" I got the "spicy" chicken (not spicy at all) and biscuit with gravy and eggs. I had to add salt and pepper to just about everything but it looked great. The banana nut bread was okay a bit dry and the edges were way over browned see pics. So would I come back? Hummm not sure really. I think their wait staff is either overwhelmed even when not full or they are very new to this. Not sure. They were pleasant but just so very discombobulated. They also never checked on us. Had to go up to the bar or find a person to help with coffee etc. So saddly they for now they get a 2.5 stars. The place has so much potential I really hated to go with a 2.5 so I will round up to 3. But burnt bread, very little seasoning, the really bad service and voices bouncing off the walls such you have to yell at the person opposite you is just where we landed. Wishing the owners the best and hopeful they can make a few needed improvements. Again...
Read moreOk so I traveled abt 7 hours just to come see the Texas chainsaw house from original movie converted to a restaurant it was relocated, remodeled but went for the experience now going its a beautiful view but the restaurant let's start with food. We were not fans. Hubby ordered a cheese burger was not even worth the $13.00 or the size. Should have gone to a fast food place coulda been better. It isn't even a gourmet Burger so dissapointed meat very thin. Just hard pass I ordered the chicken fried steak $ 21.00 and nope didn't do it for me the steak was small no flavor the mash potatoes were sticky and bland was not even like real potatoes idk what it was you have to see the pics so you know what I mean. Then for appetizer we ordered the spinach artichoke dip it was the worst very thick not creamy couldn't taste the artichoke then the bread that it came with was stale they brought an other fresh order but still it was just a flop and for $ 13.00 hard pass. Yes they place in oven and thats fine but it was way over dried inside they need to practice or something but worth $65.00 on our meals no people that is my only regret sad part is I ask waitress her opinion and she spoke highly abt the food when toward the end I showed her and her eyes were like oh! I'm like no girly this was bad. Anyways the restaurant so from another regular customer i was informed they cut it short upstairs it use to be open self tour so still is but cut to short up stair then abt a 8X8 area and puppets occupied space so not much room. I brought it to staff attention their answer is yes because of A/C they had to cut room short so there's no bedroom upstairs just that piece you can see photos. Place is big for dining but I wouldn't go maybe just to drink that's it. But for food and appetizers hard pass. I'm being honest and nit sugar coating as I've always said. For a long drive, hungry and pay the $65.00 was definitely NOT WORTH IT. But it is off my bucket...
