Severe Health Risks and Unacceptable Service: A Cautionary Tale

I usually refrain from posting negative reviews, but my recent experience at this restaurant compels me to share a warning for potential patrons. We hosted a private event, and what should have been a memorable occasion turned into a nightmare.

From the outset, the service was appalling. Despite having a pre-arranged private party, we endured an agonizing wait of over an hour for our meals, with several guests never receiving their orders at all. The staff appeared completely overwhelmed and disorganized, lacking the urgency and professionalism one would expect in such a setting.

The situation escalated dramatically when, just hours after our dinner, nearly everyone in our group fell gravely ill. It was evident that we had suffered from food poisoning, leading several of us to seek medical attention due to the severity of our symptoms.

After numerous attempts to reach the owner, we finally made contact to express our concerns. Initially, our worries were brushed aside. Eventually, he suggested that we submit our medical bills, promising that he or his insurance would address them. However, weeks have passed with no response; all our voicemails and texts have been ignored. When I threatened legal action, his only reply was that we should handle it through lawyers—advice we are now following.

This experience was far more than just a disappointing meal; it posed serious health risks and revealed a shocking lack of professionalism from the restaurant management. I've been to this place several times for many years. Food and service has always been topnotch EXCEPT for this past visit. And I gave this review 3 stars because my food was very good, the service not so great. I went VEGAN 3 years ago so I had to change my food choices when looking at the menu. I don't know the traditional name of the cherry rice, but that's what I wanted without the chicken, obviously. The waitress that waited our table was nice, but disrespectful. When I told her what I wanted without the chicken, she gave me the ugliest look as if I offended her. I told I was vegan and she curled her lip at me, rolled her eyes and continued to ask me why I was vegan. Told her it was for the animals, for the planet, etc and again, rolled her eyes and snarled her nose. She made some comment about knowing other vegans, but when she looked at their purses or shoes, they were wearing leather. so of course, she looked at my purse and shoes and had a "ha" busted you look. I told her, don't look at my purse, my purse is a little nylon bag and my boots are pleather, trust me!! and she thought she was being funny about it. It was very disrespect to me and my choices. Everyone has their choice in life, but she had ZERO RIGHT to comment on how I wanted my food brought to me. She served me a plate full of disrespect. Although this restaurant have always been one of my favorites but unfortunately the parking lot opposite to this place is apparently one of the most unsafe places in Houston and none of the restaurants there have even the minimum means of security like external cameras. My car was broken into while we were having dinner inside and apart from the damages to my car, my personal stuff were stolen too. When we asked the restaurant staff about security camera they told us that they have none but they placed a board outside stating not to leave anything in your car as apparently these incidences is happening regularly. Even the officers at the police station stated the same about that location. After asking around and talking to my friends I found out that on several occasions people were even mugged at gunpoint while trying to get back to their cars with their personal belongings in their hands (not in their car) in broad daylight (word of mouth, not confirmed). It’s a pity that with all that good income the owners of all of those businesses in that area don’t take any action to provide better security for their customers. Opposite to this parking lot on Phoenicia Supermarket side they have 24/7 security patrol and they are almost at 0 incidents. Someone needs to learn from them.
