Cafe Mawal Express — Restaurant in Houston

The food was good but the experience/service was disappointing. My appetizer+entrees all came out late at the same time. The waitress was quick to leave and wouldn't check up on us. My entree ended up not having the tzatziki sauce that was supposed to be on the wrap No problem I'll just ask the waitress for a side of it when she comes back. After a long period of time she comes back to our table TO COME BRING THE CHECK not to check what we need. I ask her for some sauce, and she replies saying they don't have any ATM but they have ranch. I tell her my wrap doesn't have tzatziki sauce on it, and if we can get it taken off the check (I literally only took one bite of it bc I wasn't going to eat it without sauce it had no flavor). Then she argued with me saying it did have the sauce. I had the wrap spread out open and showed her there was no sauce. She gives me attitude and brings back 2 containers FULL OF RANCH (I tasted it). When I called her out on it she just looked at me like a deer in headlights. She ended up taking the wrap off the check after. I was a server before so I understand how stressful it could be, but this was just ridiculous. Automatic gratuity is added so just keep that in mind before you come here. Also never got any refills...

The waitresses are SCAMMERS! BE WARE! I went to Mawals with a few friends and the waitress Ashanti made me and my friends pay $50 to sit at a FREE table and took the payment through apple pay claiming that it would be better for us to send the money to her and not pay through mawals. This is also Ashanti’s 2nd time over charging us. Next we all paid for byob and hookah but Ashanti still tried to charge us another $200 when everything was already paid for. She harassed my friend through text about the money not being paid and said we did not need to return to Mawals to pay the balance she wanted the $200 sent through apple pay to her phone. Ashanti had no intention on putting that towards a fraudulent tab she was pocketing the money ! I do not appreciate being taken advantage of because your waitress THOUGHT me and my friends were too drunk to see what was going on but this needs to be handled. The first time she added her own tip on my tab ! She tried this twice to get extra money. I need to be contacted...

I have ordered food to go and when I came home I realized that they charged me for 2 chicken shawarma but didn't put it. I called and asked and they said o yea we forgot to put in your bag it was in the kitchen which I understand can happen but then I asked her for refund because i m not going to drive all the way to get the food. She said she will have the manager call me right away but manager never called and I tried to reach again I couldnt. Also, the other items in the order were also very bad. I used to go there every weekend but it seems like the food quality is getting worse and customer service is also getting worse. 👎👎👎👎

Update- So I went back to get my money back as they promised that whenever i come i can get it. The owner texted the server that he is going to zelle me the money if I delete my review.
