D Wok Express – A Hidden Gem on Blalock That’s Been a Lifelong Favorite
As a lifelong resident of Houston, specifically in the Spring Branch area, I’ve had the privilege of watching neighborhoods grow and change — but one place that’s remained consistent in both quality and heart is D Wok Express on Blalock Road. This humble, hole-in-the-wall spot has been a quiet cornerstone of my takeout traditions, late-night cravings, and reliable comfort food for as long as I can remember.
Let’s talk about the food — it’s always fresh, piping hot, and made with care. You’ll never get a bland or under-seasoned bite here. The General Tso’s chicken is a crispy, saucy masterpiece with just the right kick, and the fried rice is always fluffy and never greasy. Egg rolls are crisp, golden, and filled to the brim, not that overly air-filled nonsense you get at some chain places. And if you’re in the mood for something warm and healing, the wonton soup hits the spot every time. Every dish feels like it was made with you specifically in mind.
But what really sets D Wok apart — what truly elevates it — is the hostess, owner, chef, and all-around powerhouse who runs the show. She’s a one-woman band, and honestly, one of the most impressive people I’ve ever seen in action. She takes your order, cooks every dish herself, packages it with precision, and does it all with the kind of grace and hustle that makes you respect the craft even more. Despite working solo, she never sacrifices quality, and somehow still manages to greet you with a smile and warm energy that makes you feel like family.
There’s something so wholesome about walking into D Wok Express. The space is simple but always clean, organized, and efficient. There’s a quiet kind of pride in the way it’s run — the attention to detail, from how each order is bagged to the consistency of flavor, speaks volumes. It’s not flashy, and it doesn’t need to be. It’s the kind of place where the food and kindness speak for themselves.
In a world of rushed service and cut corners, D Wok Express reminds you what genuine hospitality looks like. It’s no wonder I keep coming back — time and time again. Whether I’m stopping in after a long day or picking up dinner for my family, I know I can count on a consistently great meal and a kind word from a hostess who treats her work like a calling.
To anyone who hasn’t tried this place yet — do yourself a favor. Support a local business that truly deserves your time, your appetite, and your respect.

Read moreJust ordered delivery. This is the WORST food we have EVER had. The sweet and sour shrimp had absolutely ZERO flavor. There was a pound of breading--couldn't even find the shrimp inside! Tasted like paper mache' and dishwater! I ordered fried rice thinking certainly no one can mess up fried rice--boy, was I wrong! Again ZERO flavor--no seasoning at all! And it tasted scorched--how the heck can fried rice taste scorched? Okay so the eggroll? WHAT was this mush we were eating in our egg roll?--again ZERO flavor, some "mystery mush" rolled inside. No cabbage and fresh pork that we are accustomed to. eating DO NOT EAT FROM THIS PLACE!!! YOU will thank me later. Our first time ordering delivery and this is DEFINITELY our last! What is going on with all the Asian restaurants in the 77040 locations? They have ALL gone down hill! It is so disappointing. We love Asian food, but can NOT find a decent place around here. At least the others start off fantastic and get terrible, this one didn't even make it out the starting gate! I don't know who is giving good reviews. The only thing that was decent were the cheese puffs and the can of...
Read moreAfter spamming my door and mailbox with your menus for several months I thought I'd give your food a try. Terrible mistake. Spent 30 some odd dollars on delivery. Was told no longer than 45 minutes took them a little over an hour. Deliveryman said everything necessary was in the bag. GF and I walk to pool to have a nice meal outside. Get everything set up, no chopsticks. Not utensils at all. No napkins. Excessive amounts of soy sauce, fortune cookies and sweet and sour but nothing to eat with. What kind of Chinese food restaurant doesn't provide chopsticks with their delivery food? Food was bland. Mongolian Beef is supposed to be spicy. Says so on their menu even... A slice of white bread is spicier than there Mongolian Beef. Same goes for spicy pepper chicken. Bland. I want a refund. Also, if you leave another menu/brochure on my door I'm going to start dumping my trash on...
