A local favorite! I do think it's time though for the interior to be refurbished and for whatever the dishwashing and tray washing setup is to be upgraded so I'm dropping my review to four stars. The reason it's four stars and not three or two is because two main factors one is a local icon and a great gathering place for friends and two. The prices are amazing.
I would also be willing to pay more to see this place. Get improved. I would love to see a big sign outside proudly advertising the pay for the employee like at Buc-ees. Until then, I hope everyone tips well! The prices are so low and the food is good so in this regard I can't complain. I will say it does feel like this place is legitimately feeding people who need food if that makes sense. Anyway, for me it's just a long time local favorite and a great diner to hang out with friends and family at.
As far as the food goes personally I only come here for breakfast so I'll speak to that . It's classic diner style eggs and sausage and bacon and different sandwiches etc at amazing prices. The quality of the ingredients seems decent to good and certainly acceptable for me.
Sometimes it can be a little less than clean feeling, for instance I always check my coffee mug when I get it! Sometimes they use cardboard boxes instead of trash cans and sometimes there can be a smell at the trash area. And to be clear here I would put all this on management rather than on staff. There's never like a motivated upbeat manager presence like you might like to see at a restaurant. The staff are very friendly in doing their best but they probably aren't incentived properly. They're probably getting the bare minimum to be honest (just look at the prices on the menu). Also, I suspect they are just following the procedures they'd been trained in by management.
Personally, I'd be willing to pay a little more to see the quality go up, but at the same time, if this place is feeding people legitimately and serving as a refuge for people with lower budgets, perhaps that's why it needs to be this way and I absolutely respect that.
Also the plastic forks usually get placed directly on a sort of dirty looking tray, they either need to use wax paper or put the fork directly on the plate 🙂🙏🏼
They also have ketchup and Frank's Red Hot sauce available both of which I appreciate. The Frank's Red Hot is available on the counter in a large like about 20 oz size bottle but it gets super filthy by the end of its usage. Perhaps consider buying like 8 oz size bottles or having some sort of method for refilling and cleaning? Honestly, it's super gross. I actually bring my own hot sauce now. Once again this is like a procedure thing.
Not complaining here, just addressing practical things and again this is one of my favorite spots and I've been eating here for almost four decades now. I really appreciate this place overall. One more shout-out...
Read morei come here usually because of price. the burgers are real hit or miss. sometimes it tastes like a decent homestyle burger. other days it tastes like oven-heated nutrient paste sprayed with burger scent. you get what you pay for 🤷♂️
thats not why im posting this review. i called a while ago because i forgot my wallet. i asked if i could order online. the person on the other line was impatient and rude. not a big deal. she said no. moving on. she was about to hang up one me when i told her i had another question. i asked her if they accept zelle or google wallet. straight up just hung up on me. as if me having genuine questions was beneath her. been to plenty of places that accept both too. didnt even answer my question either. completely uncalled for. i was half a mile down the road and was ready to read this clearly untrained and rude cashier the riot act but why waste my time and breath? moving on.
i was genuinely angry that someone in customer service could have the nerve to act so contrarily over something so miniscule. picking up the phones and answering questions, no matter how silly, is a part of the job. having a poor attitude about it is about the worst possible thing you can do to whilst performing such a simple set of tasks.
this kind of behavior should not be tolerated....
Read moreWent there today for what we'd planned to be a quick breakfast. Ordered biscuits and gravy, a coke, breakfast sandwich, and a water. After 20 minutes, our number being passed a few times, and seeing others get their food, I checked on our order. It had been lost. Waited another 10 minutes, more numbers called, checked again. The biscuits and gravy were ready, but it would be another 5 minutes for another pan of biscuits so the breakfast sandwich could be completed. The biscuits and gravy were nearly cold by then. I asked for a refund. They only wanted to refund the biscuits and gravy and the breakfast sandwich. They didn't want to refund the coke because "you already received it". I said, but the coke was supposed to be with the meal and I didn't get the meal. I want a full refund. The "manager" would not look at me and told the cashier again, to not refund the coke, and that they would get into trouble if they did. I was getting moderately angry by this time and my wife pulled me out of the place before the scene got any nastier. I cannot believe anyone would think it was ok to not refund the full order. Not likely to ever go there again.
