El Matador Mexican Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Houston

I walked into the restaurant and it was very busy and they did have a large crowd, there was loud music as it was a restaurant, bar, & dance club on Saturday night. I attempted to ask four different staff members to initially place the take out order. None of the staff that I interacted with could we communicate because of the differences in language. I found my way to the small bar area by the kitchen. We based our order off the pricing online on the menu tab on the google page for El Matador. Spoke broken Spanish with the bartender and ordered (1)cheese enchilada plate(online price $8.99), (1)beef enchilada plate(online price $9.50), & (1) 1\2 order beef fajita quesadilla (online price $6.00), (1) modelo (no online price available) If you add the.first three items the total comes up to $24.49 less tax and our total bill was $47.00 + $3.00 tip= $50.00 Now subtract the $24.49 from the $47.00 total, then the total price for the Modelo was really expensive at $22.51. I could understand between $6.00-$8.00 per Modelo but $22.51 is extremely high. This was just to feed my wife and myself for a simple dinner meal. The online menu through Google needs updating badly. Tried asking wait staff about total but no one spoke english and my spanish isn't adequate to properly communicate the issue. Then the bartender came to inform me that they were out of the beef enchiladas and asked if they could substitute for beef fajita enchiladas and I said that was ok and there was no pricing change to the $47.00 total. I received the order and proceeded home. Once home discovered that our food was cold. We live less than 3.5 miles from the restaurant, so there was no reason for the food to be cold in that short of a time period. We then started eating and the cheese enchiladas had a slightly sour taste. The beef enchiladas were ok but found the red sauce inside of the enchilada was odd compared to the normal chili-con-carne that you find on most meals. The quesadillas were ok but the sour cream also had a soured taste to it. We ate about half of each meal and could not eat anymore because off the taste and ended up throwing it into the trash. The food was mediocre at best and a bit overpriced due to the lack of quality. The wait and bar staff is rude. I was there for a party for my brother's coworker and did not know anyone. The waitress appeared angry and rolled her eyes at anyone who called on her. She forgot multiple drink orders and then wouldn't come back for long periods of time. Then she gave our table 1 check despite the fact that there was 3 groups of basically strangers at the table and refused to split the check. This was not explained before we were seated. On top of that a 20% gratuity was added to the check, which would be ok, but we received horrible service. I was forced to use my card to pay for everyone at the table and ask everyone to come up with cash because I didn't know them. Then I had to chase her down to get my card which was brought to us by a different waitress with the receipt which aldo had a gratuity line as if had not already been charged. I feel that this is a very shady practice at deceiving customers. At the bar a female customer asked for 3 shots, the bartender spilled half of one shot and simply handed it to her without refilling. She asked to please remake or replenish, he declined saying pay me first. Then she asked for limes; he threw them into the shots and on the bar. She stood up for herself and told him to be professional and give her limes on a napkin and not toss them at her. As for the drinks, the menu has no prices listed. I was charged $5 for domestic beer, everywhere else it's usually $3. This place was not high class or in a trendy area to justify the added cost. The mens bathroom was nasty dirty. My parents came in yesterday to ask for information about their VIP section and the lady there told them they could get the whole area for this friday since its more convenient for them since there is a band and dj available. They decided to meet today the day after to discuss how many people would be coming and when we got there the same lady from the day before started telling us that we could only use up one small section which is only 6 small tables and not the whole section like she told us before. My parents told her that she was at fault because if they would’ve known that only a small section could be used up they would’ve not came back and not invited people already since they were sure this was the spot. The lady and this other woman with black hair started going back and fourth and said we can either take it or leave it but we had already called family members for this party. They both walked away and we waited for them to come back so we could come to an agreement and 20 minutes went by and we were ignored and when we finally asked where they went because we had to go one of the workers told us that the main lady that spoke to us went to the store??
