The best barbecue is usually from a small establishment, 'hole in the wall' type of place. If you walk in and there's wagon wheels and horseshoes on the wall, in my experience the barbecue is mediocre. That being said, this place.... HITTERS.... whoo!! This is the best barbecue in the city hands down, in all categories. That is taste, price, selection, sauce and SIDES. HITTERS is five stars in every single one. It's a small place, so don't expect to dine in, there ain't no room but food this good should be enjoyed in the comfort of home with your shoes off and comfortable clothes. First the barbecue. I test any spot by it's chicken, if you can barbecue chicken properly, the rest I know is on point. The chicken is perfectly smokey and tender, pulls apart with your fingers. They sell 1/2 and whole chickens here which is how I like it, they also have wings but I don't have time for that!! Next is the brisket, I don't know what they doin back there but it is the best brisket ever. It's tender, juicy, falls apart in your fingers with a little fat, praise God. The ribs... look the ribs are tender, smokey and flavorful, never tough or burnt. The main thing with ribs is consistency, they are always good. I always just buy a rack because I won't get any otherwise... LOL!! People pretend like, "Oh, I didn't know you didn't get any" .. whatever. Then they have sausage, good sausage, jalapeno sausage, deer sausage... Amen... Amen... Sides are delicious, beans and potato salad are always good. The sauce is pretty good too. Lastly, let me talk about my absolute favorite thing, I must have as a gift to myself when I go here... Smoked boudain.......that's all I'm going to say. The staff is ALWAYS polite, the place is drama free and feels like a place where everyone knows everyone because there are regulars. This place isn't trying to be anything other than what it is, a good barbecue establishment. They have plates and a la carte but this food is worth every penny. It's reasonably priced NOT CHEAP but certainly reasonable for what you get. This is #1 for BBQ, I've tried a lot of the Houston go to spots, they got nothing on this...
Read moreThis place was absolutely NOT to my taste, so just a warning for those expecting normal everyday Texas BBQ. Pros & Cons: well, the potato salad was good. Cons: First, there's almost NO parking. It's a tiny place, shoehorned into a strip mall that's set too close to the street and jammed with cars. It's got no place to dine inside - well, maybe 2 tiny tables, but they're taken up by the long lines of people waiting and waiting and waiting for their orders. Half the dining area is taken up by a giant table that's used for placing orders. It's obviously a family business with all the family members working - from grandma to the kids, and disorganized to boot. They're cheap with the tiny 2 spoonfuls of bbq sauce that comes free, and any extra costs more. (NO place in Texas charges for extra sauce that I've been to!) Now, the food: There's too much vinegar and pepper in everything. The slaw was spicy and the beans way too sweet - opposite from expected. I could hardly eat the beans - such a weird taste with all that sugar then topped with pepper or something. The brisket and ribs were just ordinary at best, and overall more tough and dry than I care for. Actually ended up just throwing half of...
Read moreI have a bbq place close to my house that I like, but I pass this place all the time and wanted to try them especially being black owned. The first time I went they were out of ribs, but had rib tips so I got that and the chicken. The chicken was good and I understand it was around 5 ish during the week, so I said maybe they are out it’s fine. I didn’t dismiss this place. I tried to go again today for the 4th of July. They opened at 11am. I went around 1. They did not have any meet but deer meat and sausage. The owner was not unapologetic either times it was more like this is what we have if you don’t like it leave. How you sell out of meat at a bbq place in 2 hours, but still open for business and have a couple more hours before closing. How you not have bbq on the 4th of July?! Even if your truck didn’t deliver they have grocery stores in the area like why be open? I don’t get this place or how the business or the customer service. But I know one thing I won’t waste my time or gas going here again especially with other bbq places in the area that actually have bbq consistently. The chicken is good so hopefully you can try to give them a try on a day they actually have...
