'Twas the morning before Thanksgiving and all through Houston, the "wait till the last minute" people were freaking out. But the people at H-E-B grocery curbside pickup had us covered. I spent all night last night until 6:00 a.m. today tweaking my list (which 6:am was my cut-off time to make changes to my list — add-ons after I already paid). I did all my grocery shopping online and not one single substitute was needed. But at 7:00 a.m. I realized that my daughter had accidentally duplicated a few items that put us over budget so I was able to call the curbside people and let them know I needed these items taken off and replaced with these other items. They had no issue and they did exactly what I asked them to do and I could not be more grateful. Of course I couldn't help myself and I had to go inside and spend another $50 and my husband was utterly irritated with me but I needed a new wax melt device and needed new smelly good wax melts, wine & fancy heavy duty throw away plates and utensils. The store was packed but because they had every single cashier working that day and every single self-checkout working I was able to go in and out in 15 minutes. I thank each and every single one of the workers for working this day because I know that nobody wants to work the day before holiday because I worked retail and it is the worst day ever. Well, that and Christmas. Either way five stars I barely had to wait for 10 minutes for them to come out I was late anyway by 30 minutes so it was my fault anyway. So polite, so demure! And every single worker was wearing their uniforms with pride clean pressed not a wrinkle in sight. It's the small things that make H-E-B better than Kroger's. If you have been a Kroger's person from Ohio or anywhere else where they I have kroger's, I am so sorry because HEB has the best tasting food you will ever have in your life at the best prices using their own store brand. Did I mention I got a 22 lb turkey for $15? Anyway if a manager is reading this and give every single person working today a raise or time and a half or something because miracles were witnessed today and everybody was in a good mood, even the shoppers. And why were the shopper in a good mood? Because the staff was nothing but smiles. This store is my go-to store. And I just love the app because I can change the store wherever I'm at and do a grocery list, prepay & pickup the order same day, curbside. I am honored to be an...

I once praised this location for its staff, which genuinely reflected the predominantly Black community it serves. Sadly, that’s no longer the case, and it feels deeply disrespectful to our historically Black neighborhoods. When a company disrespects your community, it disrespects you.
You wouldn’t see this kind of misalignment in predominantly Latin or White communities, where the staff would never be mostly Black. So, as a customer, I’m left wondering why this is happening at this HEB location. It’s crucial to have Black American leadership at the highest levels in these situations to ensure that the staff accurately reflects the community. If that means intentionally hiring Black American employees to maintain cultural representation and respect, then that’s what should be done.
This issue goes beyond just skin color; it’s about preserving the culture that unites and strengthens our community. Black American leadership should always be present in predominantly Black communities to safeguard our cultural integrity. This is far more important than a random hiring process that simply fills positions without considering the community’s needs.
Because this is about culture, not just color, it’s why we, as Black Americans, used to enjoy shopping at this location. However, that experience is gradually changing, and now my neighbors and I are considering switching to Amazon Fresh as a solution, since we no longer feel respected or accurately represented in our own neighborhood store. It’s easier to just leave and shop elsewhere....
Read moreThis new HEB is nice! HEB is really revving up new locations and I’m cool with that. Their food is fresh and reasonably priced. They have the cooking demos here as well that introduce you to some tasty dishes and market their products. The chef who was there on opening day was actually working at the location near Telfair in Sugarland right before Thanksgiving but this will now be her permanent location.
I got all my things I needed in one stop including mouthwash, body wash and my groceries. Gotta love convenience. As one would expect it was clean and easy to find what you need. There was plenty of staff available to help the tons of foot traffic checking out the new store. I mean three different people offered assistance finding what I needed. One gentleman retrieved a basket for me as he noticed my hands were filled with my items, he was very helpful. And I must say I can appreciate the baskets. They were not the small double decker baskets (which are fine) but were slightly roomier. The bottom basket was a little larger than the top unlike the xtra large baskets at my local HEB. It was like the three little bears story, these baskets were “juuust right” lol.
All in all I look forward to doing my groceries here...
