I had been following Cupcake Kitchen on social media for quite some time, and more recently have been seeing more food posts along with their delicious looking desserts! After weeks, maybe even months of drooling on their food pics, I finally trek my way across Houston! It was rather a far drive for me, with the typical Houston's rush hour, however I'm happy to say it was almost well worth the trip. I definitely had my mind set on what to order, and tried the crab cake dinner. This meal cost $25 and came with quite a bit of food. Served with pasta, 2 crab legs, a corn, 2 crab cakes, a hard boiled egg, and 3 well seasoned jumbo shrimp, and heavily topped with their delicious sauce. The pasta could have used a bit more sauce as everything was drenched on top that pasta didn't get much sauce attention. Crab and shrimp were well seasoned and delicious! The only thing I had a hard time justifying was that this whole box of togo food costed me $25. A bit pricey... but maybe a bit more pasta would have made up for the cost. The gumbo was another item I've been drooling for awhile. This. Was. Delicious! Smoked turkey, grilled chicken, blue crab, sausage, and shrimp. Honestly, I'm no gumbo expert, but this gumbo was life! Had a great kick to it and everything was amazing. However... $20 for a 32 OZ? Come on man... maybe $10-15. About a third of the container was filled with rice already. I rather omit the rice and have the container filled. And eat it with the rice I have at home. Sounds like a better deal if you ask me. All in all, the food was great, the service of the gentleman behind the counter was very nice, and my food came out at a reasonable time. I really enjoyed my food, however driving across town and putting a dent in my wallet was not quite enjoyable. I'll definitely be back, but it won't be until for awhile...

We are here in Houston for a vacation weekend. We stopped in for lunch and or the seafood bowl (pasta, corn, boiled egg, potatoes, shrimp, crab patties with a sauce) out of all that, the shrimp and pasta was okay. Everything else needed to be cooked longer and add seasoning. For as long as we were waiting, you would think they were throwing down in the kitchen. I also bought a banana pudding cupcake except that there was no banana pudding flavor. It's just a regular yellow cake mix with whip cream icing and a vanilla wafer on top. It's really dry and bland.... I should've known some was up if you suppose to be a cupcake shop, they would highlight the cupcakes but instead they were sitting on a shelf that was open so basically the cupcakes are drying out. Even more so, it's OK to talk to your customers. On his kiosk, its says the seafood bowl was $20 but the order came up to $38. That's because in store its $25 with the $3.50 cupcake and tax. Smh.... Will not return.

I’m so upset. We left happy hour to get here before closing (7pm). $20 for a plate of 4 wing pieces (2 wings), inedibly spicy Mac & cheese with hardly any cheese, under cooked bland spicy cabbage, rice and beans. The beans were barely cooked and simply mixed with the rice and it was dry. The wings were actually the best thing but for the money I was so mad I got 4 pieces but the Mac was sooo spicy that I couldn’t eat it anything. The guy on the phone didn’t know the menu and the guy at the register couldn’t work the register and talk at the same time. It took over 10 mins to ring me up. Over all $24 for food that’s too hot to eat and one cupcake is too much. Oh sorry add $9 for the Whataburger I have to eat now. I was so excited for so long tho. Gave them 2 stars because the cupcake was about 2 stars. Nothing special about it at all.

Ok here we go, I been following Cupcake Kitchen for a while now so today after leaving the doctors office I decided to give them a try, I called at 11:40 am to see what time they opened and what’s on the menu today. So I drove way from Hwy 6 & westhimer , I get there a little after 12noon, oh we don’t sell food until 2pm. But I just called, the staff was extra friendly, I asked do you have anything really now? she says they can whip me up a seafood bowl at this point I’m excited and was willing to wait as I did. Seafood bowl looks great on Instagram so 30 minutes rolled by and the food come out $50 bucks cool, I look at my food its a big hunk of salmon, I’m like I ordered seafood bowl the young lady behind the counter told me I ordered a salmon bowl!? At this point I think she think I’m a jackass , so after I waited 30 and the other lady did try to help me I decided to not complain again. She said you have the salmon bowl it has shrimp and sausage along with a nice cut of salmon it did look good so I’m like cool. I get home to some undercooked salmon, 2 slices of sausage cut thin like sandwich meat , no shrimp. So as I close this post I know that The owner gonna say they going to look into it and they sorry. But appreciate your business but don’t offer any refund or a discount on your next visit means I won’t ever be back. Because as I look at all those other bad reviews none said anything about a refund or discount. But you want people to wait until 2pm for a plate and the Turkey Leg Hut and This is It soul food right around the corner. $50 bucks for undercooked salmon and no shrimp. It definitely won’t happen again, next time I spend $50 it will be at a business that takes action and not apologizes. I saw some of those reviews and was ashamed people telling y’all they not happy and you guys going to HPD because people want there hard earned money back. I don’t care if you are a black or white business I would never come back here for nothing.

Follow up * If you saw a video that I posted please show it to me, maybe if you would have been focusing on my order instead of watching me thru the cracks my order would have been correct. And yes I was happy until I got home and realized my food was under cooked and only 3 pieces of lunch meat thin sausages with no shrimp. I didn’t order salmon but I gave you guys a chance anyway. Seafood bowl and salmon sound nothing alike. You guys have so many bad reviews I’m embarrassed to even waste my time, money and energy on this establishment. And I’ve noticed that all your pictures are the same ones used over and over again. And last but not least you answered the phone and apologized for not giving me the correct time after I asked about the menu, don’t make like I arrived without prior knowledge of your cooking schedule and time. If you would have told me the correct time I would have never came. That’s why you tried to throw me something together because you made made a mistake. And tried to throw me some trash together but it backfired. Looks can be deceiving just like that...

Sadly I was extremely disappointed in the food. I had wanted to come to this establishment for a long time and was finally able to go, so I was excited. The young man taking orders was nice and friendly. Now once I received the food part of my order was wrong but the young man corrected that with no problem. I ordered the lemon pepper wings with Mac & Cheese and smothered chicken with Mac/Cheese and cabbage. Now I can understand not wasting food from the previous day but it shouldn't be obvious that this was clearly left overs from the previous day as the pasta looked old and the cheese tasted like can nacho cheese. The wings appeared to have been twice cooked in the oven but they were okay. The smothered chicken tasted okay but appeared to still have some of the flour or corn starch bubbles in the gravy. Because I am a cook that didn't really bother me but they should have whisked out the bubbles. The cabbage actually tasted decent but again both meals were clearly leftovers from the day before. I was so excited to taste the food that looked absolutely amazing on social media but I unfortunately didn't get a smidgen of that presentation. I sadly wasted $35 but you do get a nice portion size that could easily be 2 meals in one. I would possibly give them another try but just not within the first 2-3 hours of opening. Next time I would definitely go later in the day hopefully to receive fresher food. I totally forgot to talk about the 🧁 as this is the signature name of the establishment. While I did not order any as I had anticipated because the presentation was sub-par. All of the cupcakes are behind a glass but exposed to the open air and not in an enclosed cabinet space. The cupcakes all looked dried out and not fresh.

Recommendation: I would highly recommend this establishment take a day or two and throughly clean the building from top to bottom. As I looked around the dust and grease buildup is overwhelming. All of the molding and baseboards were dirty and appeared to a buildup from time. To have the price point you do for the food, your establishment & decor has to be equal to that. Don't get me wrong I believe this business thrives because of the location in the historical 3rd ward residential area of Houston, but it doesn't have to look ran down. I think the owners have gotten comfortable and have simply slacked on the upkeep of the building. Moreover, leftovers should not ever be an obvious thing to customers. Keep it classy and up scale as the social media presentation alludes to. Overall I give ⭐ ⭐ now but it could easily increase with the minor...

Me and my sister decided to give this place a try and support black owned business given that we also wanted to see what the hype was about since we stay down the way in Sunnyside. Once we arrived there was not enough sufficient parking due to other surrounding businesses and also being located next to Live Oak Bar and Grill. Its a small parking lot. But I did not let that deter me from still checking out the restaurant. Once I was able to park the line was not that long. There was only 1 cashier though. He did have a mask on but only covering his mouth not his nose. There were some display of desserts only carrot cake, strawberry cake, pineapple cake, cookies, cinnamon rolls and some cupcakes behind the class counter. I ordered a strawberry cake, 3 cookies and red velvet cake. As for food I ordered the salmon and shrimp plate and a oxtail plate. Which came out to be a around $75.00 to me seemed a bit overpriced but I gave it the benefit of the doubt that the food was worth it. I was not given a wait time . The cashier told me that they would call me when my order was ready. I placed my order at 6:52. My order was not ready until 7:47 which was almost an hour wait. The food smelled good so it made me excited to get home an try. I was decieved and disappointed when I tried my food. The salmon was not scaled all the way and overcooked. If you are going to serve someone a filet of fish with the skin at least make sure you properly make sure all the scales were off the fish the sauce did not really have much flavor. The cabbage was spicy it had red pepper flakes in there I shared my food with my son and daughter. EVERYONE DOES NOT LIKE SPICY FOOD. The mac and cheese was a bit loose and watery. It did not have much consistency and mac and cheese would normally do and they had pepper on top 🙅🏽‍♀️. The oxtails could have been cooked longer and it was more fat on them i felt they were rushed. These plates cost a whopping $24.00 each. No prices are listed on display at the restaurant. The food quality and service did not add up to the price of the food. Cupcake kitchen unfortunately I will not return the food and dessert could be better i would have thought being in the heart of 3rd ward you all would be on point especially being located among near This is It , Frenchy's and a host of other restaurants that have been in the game thriving and serving the community for years. Its a no for me . I would not recommend anyone ordering from this place but to each is own. Go see...
