How to describe this awesomeness and not do it a disservice? How about saying it’s one of the best Mediterranean restaurants in the states I’ve had the chance to visit. Hands down the place to go for great food and more importantly for us- gluten free options. Extensive menu with breakfast, lunch, light snack and full meal options. The portions are generous and delicious. Our party started with the GF hummus and pita platter and had a GF burger, GF grilled cheese, GF Ruben, the Chicken Kebab plate and a salad- everyone was more than happy and content. Virtually everything on the menu can be adapted for gluten free needs - from sandwich’s to burgers and most awesomely the pita bread with hummus. The owner spent some time at our table to let us know how seriously they take food allergies and special dietary needs - a true sign of a place that cares. I won’t reveal the secret to the amazing gluten free pita but it’s awesome. Full bar service, delicious tea selection, soft drinks at the fountain or by the can. Fountain drinks and iced tea are self service and refills are free for the duration of your meal. And don’t miss the complementary frozen yogurt. Spacious, bright, welcoming and just all around a cool place. Indoor and outdoor patio seating available. Handicap accessible. Family and kid friendly. The Island Grill made my top ten list and is absolutely worthy of five stars. I’m definitely coming back every time I’m in the area.

We were looking for a healthy dining option and found American Island Grill. Although they are well established after 23 years in this location we found a new to us option in West University. The food service (Romona) and ambience was warm and inviting. They cook with extra-virgin olive oil their fish is wild cod, certified Angus beef, boars head, deli meat, hormone free, chicken, fresh aid, whites, and smoothies, made with real fruit. We had the Hanover Plates with grilled shrimp, hummus, tabouli, avocado, walnuts, Mushroom and gluten-free pita bread with a side of basmati rice. Ramona was kind enough to walk us through the menu and include suggestions for first time diners. What we particularly liked was the fact that she was more than willing to go through the ingredients and find something Soy free for my wife. There is even a warm, comfortable outdoor patio for those dine outside. We will definitely return soon

This was our first time at Island Grill. You order at the front desk and they give you a number to place on a table you select. This whole process was so easy and the food arrived quickly. We will be back. The Beef Kabob plate was delicious, I had it with Greek Salad and Hummus. You get two sides and these looked like the best choices for me. The Falafel balls were very tasty, they were cooked just right. One point to make they looked more like donuts and less like balls, but it didn’t matter it’s the taste that counts 🤓 The Gyro Pita was great, the meat was tasty and the salad was just right. We also had the Gyro rice plate- both options are great. If you wanted to come in and site at the bar, it looks like that is a good environment as well. Also the pita bread was great, it wasn’t doughy and was just right to complement the meal.

Went in with no expectations and failed to meet one. This location has its own parking spots, so that's nice, but that's about it. The menu options are varied; burgers, gyro, pizza, and salads, they offer a large menu and have smoothies as well. It is a walk up counter to order, then you food is brought to your table. The staff seemed pleasant, but in disarray. We attempted to order at the counter, the cashier had to excuse herself to take care of a table. She came back and took our order. We sat down and waited. The tables were somewhat full, so it seemed it could be good. The table next to us got their meals, two adults and two kids. Mom, Dad, and brother got their food and the sister, who ordered pasta with marinara sauce did not. Her food did not get prepared in the kitchen. Wait staff says they'll rush an order, apologies for the mistake. A few minutes later, another table gets their orders. The sides are mixed up on each other's plates. I ordered a turkey burger and sweet potato fries and my wife ordered a veggie pita. We joked that she would get a beef and lamb pita and I would get a cheeseburger with regular fries. Our orders arrived as ordered. The bun was stale and lacked condiments, the patty was a frozen possibly store bought one as could have been the sweet potato fries. The veggie pita lacked flavor and so did the tzatziki sauce. I felt like leaving after a few bites but we were fairly hungry and decided to stay. Multiple tables needed to be bussed but that did not seem a priority as the manager directed her to take care of something else. The poor execution of this restaurant is not acceptable when Hungry's, Istanbul, Local Foods and many others are in the immediate area. Houston as a foodie City offers such a great menu that this place should not have a lackluster showing.

If skip this place...

9/2/2020 Island Grill is an awesome place. The food is great, service is really good. The workers really keep up with your needs and the manager Jeff is a really kind , considerate and professional who thrives on making sure you have the best experience. I would suggest that all people try this spot. Every time we come to Houston this is a must stop.

9/6/2020 Just returned to Island Grill while waiting for my party to be released from MD Anderson. They have a patio that is pet friendly. It’s only 4 minutes from MD Anderson. They don’t mind you hanging out while you wait. I wish all establishments were like this one.

The menu is great for those with special diets. Fresh meats, fresh vegetables, juices and smoothies made with fresh and raw fruits and vegetables no added sugars. And thy will cook your food any way you request.

9/8/2020 Again enjoying food and drinks while waiting for patients release from MD Anderson. Thank you manager Jeff for being such a great person. You run a great business. I look forward to seeing y’all again...
