Reborn at the Right Time

Nobody knowingly yearns to be vulnerable. Unless you can look in the mirror and truly love who you are, the instinct toward insulation is strong. Please allow me to be earnest, after years of avoiding mirrors. In 20**, I moved to Houston to live a life of penance. I was alone, depressed, earthy, soft spoken, and short. Somewhere along the way, I had lost my go go get 'em get 'em uhn uhn. My beloved vanity rarely loitered—the echo of compliments past having abruptly faded. Such kindness found homes far away from mine. But now, seven ascetic years later, I have rediscovered kindness, through the shear wonder of Clique and Trish (from Clique).

Please sit down for this. Two weeks ago, I trusted Trish when she recommended an au courant customized Clique cut. It was a leap, but I took her advice (and I will be eternally grateful for a very long time that I did). As soon as I walked out the Clique doors that night, I was approached by two strangers for an MMF. I was shocked, but I have to admit I was flattered at the same time. Since that MMF, I have been in an FMF, an MFFM, an accidental MMMMMF (people flaked), a semi-closed fully-clothed triad, and an MDMAMFF (demoted to FF, which happens a lot even if you are well rested). Because of my cutting edge Clique chop, I’m also a backup feature shadow dancer behind the Pendulum swing on Thursdays. And now I’m married to a unicorn! My wife and most of my new friends call me Haircut Boy, but I think they also like me for me. I don’t really care though -- either way. You guys can walk around again now.

Even though I have a toe over the Brimley/Cocoon Line, I feel like it’s 1994 again. And this time I’m not undercover, wearing new club clothes to The Station with the tags occasionally showing (captain made us return them). I used to love coming here but over past couple months there’s been a downfall in professionalism and customer service. I came in for a root touch up and was left with yellow banding they said it will be taken care of on next service as they lift hair gradually. I understood and agreed. Came in today for my next routine root touch up and was told they CANNOT take off the yellow banding that I was misinformed by last stylist. I explain to stylist I have been going to work with a yellow banding embarrassed but have been very patient, as they promised it will be done on my next service. Stylist said they cannot make any promises. I was not happy with her response but agreed anyways because I do not have the energy to argue with a worker that clearly hates her job responsibilities and was having a bad day. After agreeing to continue service stylist comes back with pricing and I simply ask why pricing was different from my last SAME service she could not offer a valid reason and just said due to various conflicts salon cannot do my hair. This is not a professional way to take care of customers. The pricing is not an issue I just wanted to know why it was higher this time with same level stylist. She simply could not answer my 1 respectable question. I profoundly felt profiled by my ethnicity like I could not pay for my service. As a business owner and someone who managed a high profiled hair salon in Santa Monica in the past - this type of service will cost you business. I am sorry your stylist was having a bad day but as a professional you have to separate your personal life or believes and treat all clients equally.
