I am the assistant director at a private preschool and yesterday I took a group of our students to see the play "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and we had a phenomenal time!
All of the staff was so welcoming from the sweet woman (I'm so sad I don't remember her name- she was SO helpful and kind!) who greeted us upon arrival to Miss Judy who got the children excited for the show and kept them entertained while they waited for the curtain to come up. Everyone was TERRIFIC!
And then the play itself! I am a full on LOVER of the original "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang". I was ready to sing ALL the songs (My car is even nicknamed Toot Sweet)! I was also ready to be potentially disappointed if the play didn't live up to the movie I love so much. But the production was phenomenal!!!! The actors and actresses were so extraordinarily talented, the set was beautiful- it was truly a wonderful experience!
And our students LOVED it as well! Our school is a good at least 45 minute drive from the theater and the children were still singing the songs from the play as they were walking back into school. I think it is SO important for children to get their faces out of a screen and instead be immersed in a real life experience. And Main Street Theater provides just that. An experience for children where they are engaged with real people and become invested in an outcome. I hope the actors and actresses there know how important what they do is. They are not just providing entertainment (although they are certainly entertaining!). They are creating an experience that encourages engagement and education as well. They are providing young minds with 2 hours of their life that they will never forget.
We will definitely be back again soon! (I'm already looking at the 2022-...
Read moreWe visited this theater recently for a performance of Giorgiana and Kitty - Christmas at Pemberley, which is a play based on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. It was an excellent performance by a top notch cast.
This theater is very small. We counted about 100 seats. It's only 2-3 rows on 3 sides and the front row is literally right up against the stage, which is at ground level (not raised). So it feels like you are almost part of the story. It's an immersive experience. There were moments in the play where I felt like taking a picture, not because I was watching a play, but because I felt like I should capture the moment. Then I realized, wait, it's not real. That trick is a combination of the incredible performance and the stage format.
All in all this was an amazing evening. I felt like I knew the characters personally, and the show was humorous, emotional, and entertaining. You know a cast is very good when you can see their faces from 6 feet away and can see every bit of every expression, and still feel their performance is completely convincing.

Read moreAugust 2023, I thought this to be a comedy. There wasn’t anything funny, the cast was excellent. The story was average. The production crew yelled at me for bringing a bag of M&Ms in the theater, which they sold at the counter. I threw them in the trash. As soon as she, this lady informed me, there was no eating. Then another production crew member came and grabbed the bag that was in the trashcan and stared me down, .During intermission, part of the crew came and told me please don’t lean against the wall because it might fall in. Ridiculous. I accidentally tripped on a fake phone line which was a prop the cast used, you would have thought I just flipped the light switch or something, Oh my gosh, the cast was really really good but the production crew and those people were like on some kind of control board crack. I was walking to my seat and tripped on this phone line. I did not fall but the phone sure hit the floor. It was a prop. Didn’t need to be plugged into a Jack. OMG but they sure rushed out and checked the line and all. I...
