La Hacienda: Where the Enchiladas are the Size of Texas and the Margaritas are Stronger Than My Commitment to My New Year's Resolutions
Let's be honest, Houston has no shortage of Mexican restaurants. But La Hacienda isn't just another Tex-Mex joint slinging out sad tacos and watery margaritas. This place is the Beyonce of Tex-Mex: fierce, fabulous, and garantiert to leave you with a sonrisa the size of Texas.
First off, the portions are HUGE. I ordered the chicken enchiladas verde, and let me tell you, those weren't your mama's enchiladas. They were more like enchilada boulders, smothered in a sauce so verdantly green it could make a leprechaun jealous. And the chicken? Oh, the chicken! So tender it practically apologized for being in my mouth. I swear, one bite and I was transported to a sun-drenched hacienda in Oaxaca, mariachi band and all.
And then there were the margaritas. Oh, the margaritas! Let's just say they were strong enough to make me forget my resolution to "cut back on tequila." One sip and I was salsa dancing on the table (metaphorically, of course, because I have the grace of a baby giraffe on roller skates).
But La Hacienda isn't just about the food and the booze (although, let's be real, those are two pretty big things). It's also about the atmosphere. The place is like a fiesta explosión of color and warmth. The staff is friendly and attentive, always ready with a refill or a recommendation. And the music? Well, let's just say it's the kind of music that makes you want to grab your abuelita and twirl her around the dance floor.
So, if you're looking for a Tex-Mex experience that's as big and bold as Texas itself, look no further than La Hacienda. Just be sure to wear your stretchy pants and maybe leave the car at home, because those margaritas are sure to give you a case of the happy feet.
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars (and maybe a bonus star for the guacamole, because that stuff was legit)
P.S. I hear the fajitas are also amazing. But I'm still recovering from my enchilada encounter, so I'll have to their word for it. 😉
P.P.S. If you see me salsa dancing on a table, please don't judge....
Read moreTHEY MAKE YOU PAY FOR FOOD THAT YOU DIDN'T EAT. As a Mexican young woman I am very upset on the service. If I could give it 0 stars if I could. Orders were not placed correctly but I didn’t want to say anything since I am not that kind of person and wanted to give the server grace since maybe I thought he was busy, So I tried the food. They gave me beef enchiladas and I honestly was not a fan so I showed our server that i took a bite and told him it tasted funny, he took the plate and asked what I wanted and told him a fajita quesadilla. When the quesadillas came out it was chicken but again I did not say anything because now the server seemed like they were upset that I did not enjoy the first bite of my first dish . So I continue to eat it but I just felt all the servers talking about me and they were all just staring at me making faces which made me feel super uncomfortable and unwelcome. When the check comes out it shows they charge me for the enchiladas I didn’t eat so we ask the manager if that could be taken off since we didn’t eat it (only took one bite to try it). The manager said he cannot take it off because he threw away the enchiladas away… At this point my partner and I were fed up with the place because 1. Orders were not coming out correctly 2. Everyone was rude and seemed like they were upset with me 3. They made us pay for food we did not eat. We did not argue with the manager and kept our composure through the whole experience, and to be completely honest we did not leave any tip. I come from a background of hospitality in restaurant business and this restaurant needs some training on how to treat their guest. Not to mention I was one of the only Hispanic dining there and for my people(servers and managers were Hispano) to treat me that way is really heartbreaking. I always drove past this restaurant and always wanted to try so it makes me sad that because of my experience I will NEVER...
Read moreLa Hacienda Restaurant on Memorial Drive My heart is broken 💔 after 40+ years of going to La Hacienda I walked out tonight unhappy 😡 no not unhappy... HURT, SAD,and ANGRY. They know me by name, they know my order, they know everything and when I brought my Service Dog in they said he could not come in because they would get a Ticket from the Health Department. I politely said no you won't he's a Service Dog . Again they said no, they said I could come in but he couldn't. I had company from out of town and my best friend with me and so I said fine ! I'll run him home...while my friends were seated I drove my pup back home! When I came back we decided we would not eat there and instead went to Ninfa's. Now... let me also say that my dog had been in La Hacienda before ... and tonight ...Halloween Night the place was literally a ghost town with only a few patrons at 630 pm. My dog is better behaved then most children I have seen there. (Never go on Friday or Saturday if you want a relaxing meal... there are tons of kids and no one tells them to behave, not the parents nor the management) There was absolutely no reason they should have turned my Service Pup away. I am really hurt and saddened ... it will be a long time before I go back... if I go back.
To add insult to injury my guest told me she watched a young waiter chewing his nails, and then was standing in the dining room scrolling thru his phone.
